Election post

Hi, I'm Mariyah and I am a First Year BSc Psychology student. I am running for this position as I want this society to be a space where we can explore Psychology beyond the scope of our lectures and feel more confident about our futures beyond our degrees.

I am organised and reliable and I am comfortable contacting staff, postgraduates and external individuals to help plan and promote events.

I have prior experience leading psychology events. In my previous school I helped run the psychology club and also delivered a student talk on the nature-nurture debate.

If elected, some ideas I have for events include:

- Career talks with alumni and external speakers for ideas on what to do with a Psychology degree
- Research speed talks - rotate to different tables to talk to professors or postgrads about their specific research areas
- Mini lectures on topics outside of our programmes that people are interested in hearing about
- Mini lectures given by students to practice public speaking and presenting psychological ideas confidently
- Collaborate with other societies for interdisciplinary studies and to see how we can apply Psychology to other subjects

I will prioritise inclusion by organising events that are both in-person and online and use anonymous online forms to continuously gather feedback and suggestions so that events reflect what members actually want.

Please vote for me for Academic Events Officer so I can put these ideas into practice and help build a supportive academic community
