Hi! I'm Charlotte and I'm running for Piano Lesson Coordinator because I love sharing my enthusiasm for the piano. Last term I volunteered as a piano teacher and found it both fun and incredibly rewarding. I've also helped my own piano teacher by playing duets with younger students, and seeing their excitement when they complete a song is truly heartwarming. As Piano Lesson Coordinator, I hope to organise lessons, encourage more people to get involved, and help make the society a welcoming and fun place for everyone.
I am a survivor of the ABRSM Cult of Asia™® - with my fingers abused by Beethoven's Sonatas and Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier for the past 12 years, you bet my fingers can type up a bomb-dot-com-ask-ur-mom Excel spreadsheet to allocate students to teachers next year. As your Lesson Coordinator, I believe that:
- 30 minutes is lowkey not enough? If you spend 5 minutes saying hello, 10 minutes warming up, 5 minutes on that one problem bar... ok buster see you next week? Already?? I'd love to organise extended lessons on request and more flexible timing blocks, for more effective and impactful learning, especially for our intermediate students 😍😍❤️
- Escaping the Lewis Building 🤢🤢: because I swear to God if that door gating the lift is locked one more time this term I'm going to fight someone... and learning in a room that smells permanently of waxy candles... I'd love to organise alternative room options for lessons (especially that delicious piano at Room 204 in Bloomsbury Theatre 🤤)
- Beginner-friendly repertoire library: I'd love to curate some beginner to intermediate pieces (free for everyone), that also don't induce an immediate receding hairline (I've burned my Hanon / Czerny books)
- I can ensure personality / genre preference matching! Because piano isn't all about Mozart...
With my experience in teaching piano + as well as my potential bipolarism as either your chill mentor or your Tiger Chinese teacher - you can trust me in organising effective and fun lessons next year.
Currently I’m part of the teacher committee for piano society but I hope to do more for the society, I know many people who want to learn piano but have been unable to because all the spaces for students have fills up or there aren enough teachers, I hope to change this.
Additionally, I hope to bring more benefits to our volunteer teachers who take time out of their day voluntarily to teach the students.
