Having been a Features Section Editor for Pi Online, my time in Pi Media has been nothing short of fun, fruitful and fulfilling. Naturally, I want to give back to the society that has made my time at UCL incredibly meaningful.

While Pi Media is one of the more renowned societies here at UCL, I believe we can go even further. Everyone in Pi Media, no matter section or role, works incredibly hard and I want even more people to see that. As Social Media Officer, one of the ways I intend to achieve that is through strengthening our society’s social media presence.

I am a Canva warrior, a long-time Twitter (now X) stan account owner and a TikTok addict. It's safe to say that I know a thing or two about the ways of social media. From those experiences, I have picked up valuable skills such as video editing and graphic design. Moreover, I am not only caught up with the latest headlines, but also well-versed with the hottest online trends. Trust me when I say the Internet is the playground I grew up on.

To achieve my (hopefully not far-fetched) dreams of making Pi Media worldwide famous, here are some of my plans:

- Ensure that our Instagram accounts have a standardised and cohesive layout
- Ramp up the scale at which we promote every section’s work to get the visibility it deserves
- Collaborate closely with other members of the committee in a joint effort to make sure that our publicity strategy is well-coordinated and impactful

Together, let’s take Pi to greater heights.

Aliya Yang

Hi I'm Aliya

Absolutely loved writing for Pi and attending all the events this year! Would love to contribute in a bigger way in the coming months.

Having made posts for the social media accounts of a few different societies and clubs in the past, I would love to take over for Pi and be more active in promoting the articles and columns we produce.

Izzy Huntley

Hi! I’m Izzy, and I’m putting myself forward for Social Media Officer!

Writing for Pi this last year has been such a good experience for me, from sports to lifestyle and culture, it has been a great publication to be able to contribute to. I would therefore love to be even more engaged with the society next year by being on the committee!

I feel that I would be particularly good in this role because I am very confident in using social media platforms, and would ensure that Pi’s online presence always maintains a cohesive theme and communicates effectively, as well as of course being engaging. I am a dedicated and hard worker, who learns quickly and can manage my time well, and so would be super reliable. Furthermore, I absolutely love working with other people, I am a super sociable person who loves being in a team and engaging with others as much as possible!

The opportunity to write and be part of Pi as much as I can is what I would love to be able to do next year, as a future aspiring journalist and someone who just really enjoys being part of this society. I am super passionate and so would always put my full effort into the role, and hopefully therefore be able to make a positive impact on Pi and its social media.

I hope I’ve convinced you why I would make a good Social Media Officer! Thank you so much!

BE HONEST: When was the last time a society post actually made you stop scrolling? Exactly...

At UCL, attention is brutal. If content isn’t sharp in the first two seconds, it disappears. I’m running for Social Media Officer because PI Media deserves feeds that people fall in love with!

Over the past year, I’ve built and analysed content across societies and personal platforms, experimenting constantly with hooks, pacing, and platform algorithms. What I’ve learned is simple: good social media is about engineering attention.

If elected, here’s what I’ll do:

→ Turn Pi Media into a scroll-stopper: Short-form video that feels native to each platform, stronger hooks, and visuals that immediately signal quality.

→ Build consistency people recognise: A clean, cohesive feed where every post looks intentionally branded.

→ Show the people behind the projects: More behind-the-scenes, member spotlights, and real production moments. I believe that audiences connect with faces, not just finished work.

  • But beyond tactics, I truly care because PI Media has serious creative talent! My job is to make sure the outside world actually sees it. This is actually the most exciting part.

If you want social media that actually earns attention, I would genuinely value your vote.

Let’s make Pi Media impossible to scroll past!

Ayda Ugurel

Hi everyone! My name is Ayda, and I am standing for re-election as your Social Media Officer. Having served in this role during my first year, I’ve realised that this is exactly where I belong. I’m not seeking any other position on the committee because my passion truly lies in the work I’m already doing, and I want to keep that energy going for another year. The "why" is simple: I love the creativity this role demands. My favourite part of being Social Media Officer has been producing content and drafting the templates that shape our magazine’s online presence. There is something so rewarding about translating our contributors' hard work into a visual identity that resonates with our audience. I’ve also found that collaborating with the Students’ Union on Instagram has been a highlight, it’s helped me feel truly integrated into the magazine and the wider UCL community! Beyond the grids and the metrics, I’m standing because of the people. I genuinely love working with this lovely committee and want to continue contributing my creativity to such a supportive environment. Looking ahead, I hope to further increase our digital engagement by introducing more interactive content that showcases the incredible diversity of our student contributors. I am so proud of what we have achieved so far, and I would be honoured to continue shaping Pi Media’s visual legacy for another year.
