Charlotte Peach

Hi, I’m Charlotte! I just joined Pi this year, but I’ve loved so many different aspects of it—the online weekly writing commissions, PiTV, the magazines, being a news correspondent, the occasional Writers Room or guest speaker—but I just wish that our (amazing) society had a few more events to come together and meet other likeminded writers. It’s understandable that a writers society is quite an isolated, non-event one, but I’d like to become the Events Officer next year and try to change that!

My ideas for events next year are:

  • Weekly writers catch up – I really like that Pi has started the Writers Room sessions this year, but I think it would be nice to make that a more frequent, more casual event, maybe held in a cute coffee shop, which is always occurring on a set night so writers can come in with regularity to chat or simply write with others
  • At least one ball per year! This is my solemn promise, I will make it happen.
  • Launch parties for magazines: I feel like each magazine edition needs a bit more commotion, and the writers/creators for them need more recognition, so I’d like to hold Serious, Proper Launch Parties for each magazine!
  • Continuing and increasing the career panel chats! I think these have been amazingly helpful (and just really cool) events, so I'd like to increase the frequency of them. (I love cold emailing, I promise to find amazing panellists!!!)

Journalism is built on ideas, yet oftentimes, the ability to spotlight these ideas effectively depends on something less visible: good financial management. As Treasurer, I would prioritise ensuring that all financial choices are informed by student input. This means helping to give members the resources and financial security they need to tell the stories that matter to them, while also enhancing and tailoring social and career events across the society to student demand.

For instance, having spoken with members of Pi, and as someone who also hopes to become a journalist one day, I understand the vital career opportunities that the society is able to create. Recently, I was inspired by a talk from Maryam Moshiri of the BBC, and I would love to work on increasing funding for these speaker events, improving their diversity and frequency. Through running fundraising initiatives in my area to support KS3 literacy schemes, I have gained first-hand experience managing the finances behind events like these.

Alongside this, I would also like to increase and redistribute social funding, organising more informal socials and potentially looking into larger events such as a society ball depending on interest. Drawing on my experience managing budgets for such end-of-year proms and balls in recent years, I believe a renewed social focus could help build a stronger sense of community within Pi, encouraging more people to get involved by creating a welcoming and social environment!

I’ve loved being Events Officer this year – from helping run speaker events to organising pub socials, and most importantly, meeting the amazing people who make up Pi. It’s been such a rewarding experience, and I’d love to continue bringing our talented community together through fun, welcoming hangouts next year :)

I’ll say what most people are thinking. The best Pi Media moments don’t happen on the feed; they happen in the room.

That’s why I’m running for Events Officer.

Pi Media has incredible creative talent. But the real magic happens when filmmakers, editors, photographers, and producers actually meet, collaborate, and create energy together in person. My goal is to make Pi Media events the place people genuinely want to show up to.

Over the past year at UCL, I’ve worked across society events, media projects, and team coordination. I’ve seen what makes an event feel flat… and what makes a room feel alive. It’s about doing the right things smoothly and intentionally.

If elected, here’s my focus:

  • Events that feel creative and high-energy: Interactive formats and experiences that reflect Pi Media’s identity, not generic meet-ups.
  • Flawless behind-the-scenes execution: Clear timelines, strong speaker coordination, and mesmerising on-the-day delivery!
  • More moments that spark collaboration: Mixers, showcases, and low-pressure creative spaces where members connect and start projects together.

You might ask: "Why vote for you?"

And I will confidently answer: Because I care deeply about the feel of an event, the small details that decide whether people stay engaged or quietly leave.

Pi Media already has great talent. My role and commitment are to build the spaces where that talent actually comes together.

If you want events that people don’t just attend, but remember, I’d genuinely value your vote.
