Cheryl Ong

I am running for president because I hope to make the society a place where photography enthusiasts can connect with each other, hone your skills and have fun regardless of your skill level.

Having been part of the Photography Society committee as Magazine Editor for the past 2 academic years, I have a good understanding of the society’s operations.

If I am elected, I would like to:
1. Organise more photowalks and invite more photographers doing various genres for talks. I hope to have at least a photography session each week.
2. Collaborate with other societies to bring a variety of events to our members.
3. Member-led photography socials! — an initiative where members can propose a photowalk route / theme / area and lead the walk. It’ll be great for those wanting to do a photowalk with others!
4. Plan an exhibition and produce a new edition of our magazine: Wide Angle in Term 2.
5. Acquire more cameras and equipment for members’ use during sessions.

I hope that everyone will enjoy their time in the society!

Nychole Kwan

Hi everyone, I’m Nychole! I am delighted to be standing for President this year. Since joining the society, I’ve come to value photography as a creative outlet much more from meeting others who share the same curiosity and passion for this hobby.

As president, I hope to diversify society events by offering more project-based or volunteering/service opportunities for members the chance to tailor their photography journey based on their goals and interests. In addition, I aim to attract a wider range of members, particularly complete beginners and create a space where they could comfortably learn new skills and develop their interest. I'd approach this by running more beginner-friendly workshops. (E.g. cellphone-only shoots could allow those with the interest but not necessarily the “fancy gear” the chance to explore photography at their own pace.) Of course, this shouldn’t take away from existing events allowing more experienced photographers to further experiment. Overall, I hope to encourage more ways for members to showcase their work so that everyone, regardless of experience level, feels inspired to participate.

From being President of my high school’s Media Team before, I carry strong organisational and leadership skills to coordinate projects and manage partnerships. Combined with my enthusiasm for photography and the community, I believe I would be a dedicated candidate for this position. Thank you and I look forward to the opportunity to work with everyone next year!
