Hi! I’m Asia, and I’m a second-year studying BSc Science and Engineering for Social Change. I started my photography journey with my digital pocket camera back in middle school, but quickly fell in love with the warmth and grain of film and haven’t stopped using it since 2023! Over the years, I’ve discovered that film photography can be very fun and innovative (like playing with double exposures to making film soups!), and I’d love to explore film further while being your Film Officer!
If I am elected, I hope to encourage greater interest in film photography through creative and accessible workshops on the various processes involved, from setting up the camera to printing film photos. I will ensure that those who wish to learn about film photography receive guidance on what it is and how it works, and that those who wish to take their photography further have a chance to experiment with different physical and chemical techniques. As someone who is still in the process of understanding analogue photography, I am excited to go on this journey with other fellow photographers and learn more while sharing my passion!
I’m passionate about film photography and would love to contribute to the film community within the UCL photography society. I mainly shoot 35mm film and really enjoy street photography, capturing everyday moments in places I visit as a lifelong traveler. Recently I’ve also started exploring 120 film for landscape photography.
Through my own practice I’ve become familiar with the film workflow from shooting to developing and scanning. I mostly develop black and white film at home using standard chemistry such as D76, and I’m also familiar with the C41 colour process through using facilities from an external film lab. I’ve also had the chance to participate in the society’s darkroom enlarging workshop.
I’d love to help make film photography feel more approachable for members, whether that’s sharing tips, recommending favourite films (Ektar is one of mine!), or helping people shoot their first roll. I’d also be happy to support film-related activities within the society, such as helping with darkroom sessions or sharing simple guides for members who are curious about trying film for the first time.
