Hi, I’m Emma!
As an events officer, this will be my main goal: to create unique, regular events that encourage exploration and teach new skills.
Here are some new session ideas:
- ‘Capture a quote’ = take photos that reflect a meaningful quote to you
- ‘Mixed media’ = add to your photos, e.g. sewing, drawing, collaging
- ‘What’s this?’ = capture an object in an unconventional way, e.g. focus on texture
- ‘Boring…wait hold on?!’ = use context to support photo, build intrigue
- ‘Is this a dream?’ = capture a surreal feeling (potential long exposure workshop)
I will also organise more talks:
- ‘Strike a pose’ = explaining posing techniques
- ‘Portraits’ followed by self-portraits and LinkedIn-style headshot workshop
More excursions and themed events will spark inspiration:
- Celebration, e.g. International Women’s Day: photograph a strong woman in your life
- ‘Tourist-ing’: photographing London landmarks early in the morning
I will also liaise collaborative events with other societies, such as sports, fashion and literature. This provides a great opportunity to photograph different genres, meet new people and fuse your ideas! My previous work as a personal relations intern developed my communication and media skills; I will use these for collaborations, inviting professional speakers and partnering with other universities.
Finally, I would like to propose a year-long project: vlogging the events. This will be a great way for members to practise videography and explore the world of content creation!
Hi! I'm Emma, a 1st year Biosciences student. I want to be the Events Officer because I believe the only way to learn how to take pictures or improve is to get out there and start shooting! Currently, I believe there is a lot of space to include more activities. My idea is to plan weekly photowalks for people in the photography community to practice and explore different styles, all while meeting like-minded people. No commitment, no judgment, no pressure!
Not only that, but I believe this society could benefit a lot from collaborating with external people, such as photography societies in other universities or inviting professional photographers in the industry to give us their insight. While I know that we don't hold the reputation of other societies like FilmSoc, I think there is much potential that can and needs to be exploited.
Other possible ideas with me include: monthly photography competitions, costume parties, agreements with camera shops for discounts, more photography workshops to learn (introduction to lighting, composition, color...), 24hr photography challenges, collaborations with music, sports or nature societies... (all fun stuff!)
I am confident that we can elevate this society and create a community in which we are all excited to participate. As Events Officer, I will strive to make the best out of the position and bring the best opportunities for all sorts of photographers. If this interests you, make sure to vote for me :)
As someone who's worked in technical photography, I'd like to make photography a more accessible hobby (yall dont know how overwhelmed i got when I first started, wish people taught me certain things first). For Photosoc, that means converting more people who have been interested (cuz let's be real a lot of people wanna take good photos) into people who participate in photography. For existing members, it means more hands-on classes with photography (more workshops?), collaborations with professional agencies and photographers to provide industry insight. So what do I have in mind:
- phone photography workshops
- more studio and other intermediate technical workshops
- collaborations with other societies or external parties for their photography needs
- photography challenges (where you have 24h to make the best photo for a prize)
- idk but a workshop about teaching your partner to take better pics of you sounds fun icl
I'd like to nominate Emma too, to be an Events officer, we are both aligned in our goals for this club, and I believe will make a genuinely good team and contribution towards it. Vote for both of us!
