Yiyang Zhang

Hi everyone! I'm Yiyang, a current 1st year Natural Sciences student, however you may remember me from last year when I was here studying Nutrition. Changing courses was one of the most challenging decisions I've had to make, but through chatting to my peers and my seniors, I received so much support and advice that I will be forever grateful for because honestly without it, I wouldn't have gotten the courage to go through with it. I believe that Nat Sci prides in having something to offer for anyone interested in STEM. It has been a great pleasure meeting people from all sorts of disciplines and hearing of what their specialities are. As Welfare Officer I will be the supportive and kind person other society members can approach and rely on, because I understand that uni is difficult in all aspects, not just academic. Therefore I would like to pass on the encouragement and advice my seniors provided me onto incoming freshers and onto anyone else wanting a shoulder to lean on, to make Nat Sci Soc more welcoming for everyone! So if you ever see me around, please come say hi because I'm always down for a coffee/matcha/boba run! (if doubtful, just keep your eye out for anyone vibrantly pink because that will probably and most definitely be me)

As your current welfare officer, and as your lead academic rep, most of my extra-curricular activities revolve around trying to improve your experience as a natural scientist. Whether it's having a yap and checking in, speaking on your behalf in committee meetings/SPCs, or pointing you towards the people and services that can help you when you need them, I've been here, and I'd love to be here for another year.

I'd like to spend the next academic year working to bring natural scientists closer together as a cohort, by pushing for a better balance of sober socials and more activities that fit in best with your lives/timetables.
