In my years at UCL Music Society I have performed in various ensembles like Mezzo Orchestra, and String Orchestra, but the exoerience that stood out of them all has been the Symphony Orchestra. It has made my time at university both relaxing and rewarding. As someone who literally grew up in a remote archipelago in the middle of the Indian Ocean, I know what it feels like to have a burning passion for an art form, without having had a ton of exposure in it, so when I first joined the choir I was pleasantly surprised to find how welcoming it was. It is precisely this spirit that I wish to reinforce in my manifesto; if I get to be the Chorus Manager:
- I will ensure no one feels left out. I’ll expand the socials to include fun activities like Ensemble Dinners, Frisbee + Picnic Socials in the Spring in Regents Park, (maybe Sports socials too), Board Games/Movie Nights, Concert Visits!
- I’ll make the ensemble more accessible to people interested in singing but not classically trained, potentially broadening the nature of the repertoire.
- I’ll also take steps to help singers hone and bring their skills to a new level by providing optional ad-hoc training rehearsals (ft. Tony and his lessons! ;)), so that not just people who are already very good get to sing solos, like principal roles in the Opera, but you’ll be able to get there too!
