Keith Richards, guitarist of the Rolling Stones, argued that "good music comes out of people playing together, knowing what they want to do and going for it."

In my opinion, this is the very spirit of the Mezzo Orchestra - a collective gathering of like-minded individuals who seek to share their love of music for music's sake, without the pressure of auditions or standards that would make Terence Fletcher flinch. And this spirit is precisely what makes the Mezzo Orchestra unique and special.

I shall not waste your time, overinflating this text box with repetitive statements merely for the sake of filling it out.

Because such an attitude does not seem in line with the values of a prospective manager. I am applying for this role solely because of my interest in the unison of music, orchestra, and community. Values that have made the Mezzo Orchestra particularly compelling - and values that I would strive to uphold.

Timmy Ting

My passion for orchestral music, combined with my organisational skills and dedication to the ensemble, makes me confident that I would excel in this position. Over the years, I have developed a deep appreciation for the collaborative and creative environment of orchestras. I understand the importance of coordination between musicians, conductors, and administration to ensure rehearsals and performances run smoothly. I am highly organised, attentive to detail, and able to manage schedules, communications, and logistical tasks effectively.

I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the orchestra in this capacity and to enhance the experience for all our members.

Thank you for considering my self-nomination. I look forward to the possibility of serving as Mezzo Orchestra Manager.

Ryan Lai

Hi, I'm Ryan, and I am standing for this because I broke my chair.

On a more serious note, I am running to be Mezzo Orchestra manager next year. Having been part of its inaugural year, I loved the vibe of the orchestra, bringing everyone interested in music together to create genuinely good music and have fun while doing it.

My vision for Mezzo Orchestra is to give everyone who plays an instrument the possibility to play in a full orchestra. The unauditioned nature of Mezzo allows for a good entry point into orchestral music, as most orchestras are auditioned and difficult to get into. Having been playing the violin for a long time, I recognise the importance of playing in an ensemble setting. It helps develop skills that normally would not be prominent in soloist playing, and motivates many to become better. I am dedicated to preserving this dynamic, where everyone will continue to contribute, make good music and have fun at the same time.

I will be running in conjunction with Kyan Foo, and we will try our best to maintain Mezzo’s greatness! We will continue the long-standing tradition of providing biscuits to fuel everyone’s desire to make better music. Furthermore, we intend to bring a wide range of repertoire, openly welcoming your suggestions as well, to satisfy everyone's musical itch. Finally, we will strive to maintain the opportunity for everyone to receive the full orchestral experience and deliver high-quality concerts! Vote for Ryan and Kyan!

Kyan Foo

Hey everyone! I’m Kyan and I’m running to be your Mezzo Orchestra manager next year. Most of you will know me from the Violin II section, trying my best to hit all the notes–but who am I kidding, I still am in Keefer’s shadow.

On a more serious note, I know what it’s like to feel intimidated by the numerous talented people we have in the Mezzo Orchestra. However, Mezzo’s most unique quality is its acceptance of everyone, simply requiring a wish to play, in the memorable words of our beloved conductor Benson. As a result, over the past year the Mezzo Orchestra has built up my confidence and enthusiasm for playing music, and I intend to give back to this ensemble to bring more budding musicians into our fold. I would like to especially thank Anandika and Lauren, our current managers, for creating the crucial foundation for Mezzo in its inaugural year, culminating in the success of the Bloomsbury Concert in January.

I will be running in conjunction with Ryan Lai, one of our amazing Navarra soloists, and we will try our best to maintain Mezzo’s greatness!
