Hey!! I’m Leela, a first year English Student, and joined the choir this year, after many years of experience in choirs and orchestras. I am an Alto 2 in Chamber Choir and am currently involved in the UCOpera production. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the choir this year, and am amazed by the quality and range of the group, as well as the incredible job done by current management.
I would like to broaden the reach of CC through more posters, leaflets, social media posts, reels and bribes (biscuits.) I would also work on including more seminal repertoire/choral classics such as Stanford in Bb, Te Deum, and more MagNuncs that lots of people and musicians would recognise in a concert programme. Adding more Magnuncs obviously means more evensongs, which is something I would also love to introduce, as we have done one this year and it is a great way to get more stuck in to the choral scene in London. I would like to attempt to perform concerts in churches more central to campus or Waterloo, as it can often be difficult for family and friends to travel to our concerts. I think this would also increase audience outreach and general awareness.
I’ve had so much fun at choir socials this year and we definitely need more! It really makes choir feel like a unit and a really lovely group to be a part of.
Possibly more concerts, especially around Christmas, would increase choir spirit as what is more choral than carols :)
Looking forward to next year!
Hi! My name is Joel and I am a 2nd year Physics Student singing Bass II in the Chamber Choir and Symphony Chorus. Having joined the group in October, I have become increasingly amazed by the ability of our singers. I hope to be given the opportunity next year to organize the group as choir manager.
Along with the regular duties of choir manager, my primary goal would be to increase visibility for our concerts. I find our breadth of talent is often overlooked by a small, though enthusiastic, turnout. First, I would make it my aim to encourage effort in members to advertise our concerts, whether that's on an Instagram story or simply telling their friends to come along.
I would also try to find places around campus to put up posters for our concerts. I don't tend to see these, and certainly not as much as I see ones for the Symphony Chorus concert. I would also organize handing out leaflets for our concerts, much like the Communist or Christian society do (I'm sure you've seen them around campus.) I believe being given something physical is a much more convincing advertisement then scrolling past an Instagram story.
I would also try to improve our social media presence more generally. Lots of society accounts have started making reels to advertise their concerts (even our friends at UC8!) I think if we take a similar approach, it could be a very effective way of increasing visibility.
Regardless of the nomination, I look forward to working with the choir more in the future!
