Medical Society: Paediatrics Chair

Hi everyone! I’m Yameena, a current 2nd-year, and I’d love to be your next Paediatrics Chair! 🧸🩺

I’ve served on the Paediatrics committee for two years as First Year Rep (24/25) and Vice-Chair (25/26). This year has been another successful one for UCL Paediatrics. To name a few achievements, we launched the Teddy Talks Podcast, won the ballot to host the London Med Schools Paeds Conference, ran a subspecialty teaching programme, threw socials and ran the Paediatrics iBSc series. I’m proud of how we’ve balanced fun and academics and that is something I will continue to prioritise if I am made Chair.

If elected, I want to use the Paediatrics specialty application as a framework to create accessible opportunities beyond the curriculum that support career insight and development. My ideas include:

• Portfolio Focus and Networking: Mentorship Scheme, Platforms for Teaching/Research, Networking Evening.
• Practical Skill Development Workshops: Paediatric/Neonatal/Low Resource BLS, Specialist-Led Workshops.
• Subspecialty Insight: Insight into Niche Subspecialties, SPIN vs subspecialty career talks, Community and Tertiary Care Highlight.
• Community involvement: Fundraising, Socials, Patient Voice Sessions.
• Academic Development: Research Discussions, Debates.

Paediatrics is rooted in empowerment, and I’m committed to champion some of the least represented, yet most inspiring, young people. I have loved being part of the Paediatrics Committee and I would be honoured to lead its next chapter. 💛
