Growing up in Malaysia, I watched a lot of talented people struggle to find their calling professionally—not because they lacked ability, but because they didn't have the right connections or knew how to navigate corporate spaces. That stuck with me.
MSoc's Careers and Corporate Relations work is a chance to change that for our members here at UCL. We're in London, surrounded by some of the best firms and networks in the world—and I want to make sure Malaysian students actually feel confident accessing them, not just aware they exist.
I bring a few things to this role. I've done outreach and stakeholder engagement work—as a PlanetPoints Ambassador, I built relationships across UCL campuses and got people to act by making the pitch clear and personal. I'm also a PETRONAS scholar, which has given me exposure to corporate environments and an understanding of what firms look for in students from our background. And I've been creating content for organisations like Wetlands International Malaysia, so I know how to communicate a message in a way that actually lands.
I'm standing because I want to use those skills to build genuine, lasting relationships with companies—ones that create real opportunities for our members.
Corporate Relations Director is more than just getting new sponsorships; it is about building and maintaining those relationships.
Hi everyone! My name is Kate Tee and I want to run for Corporate Relations because I enjoy building connections, reaching out to people and constantly adapting new methods that explore the untapped potential in sponsorship and alumni engagement.
While events bring momentum, their impact often fades when access feels limited and long term connections don’t really form. As Corporate Relations Director, I want to change that. I want to turn brief events into structured access frameworks, forming a community where everyone can learn, inspire and empower one another, connecting with professional individuals who have been there and succeeded.
For me, opportunities, funding and exposure don’t just appear; they come from relationships that stand on consistency, communication and accountability. By developing efficient working systems and establishing a diverse range of partnerships, I want to strengthen our relations with sponsors, affiliates and alumni. Through expanding the UCL Alumni Network, I hope to bring fireside chats, group discussions and mentorship sessions for collective growth.
I believe opportunities and connections should not be limited to those who desire it. UCL Malaysian Society has truly been a home away from home, and I want to contribute by strengthening the networks that support us all.

At Chinatown, I overheard a conversation about Citta Mall, the ball knowledge was insane.
The power of community: that even strangers can make a place feel like home. I want to bridge that same sense of belonging beyond campus by strengthening corporate ties that connect students to the wider Malaysian community. Beyond “who you know,” partnerships rely on genuine understanding and empathy, just like the Malaysian vibes 😎
While LinkedIn remains useful, there is more potential in curating relationships through experiences such as dinners. This has multi-stakeholder value. In a more focused setting, we can benefit from more authentic networking opportunities and companies can be involved without commitment before deciding to sponsor formally. For restaurants, the event will give them more organic publicity.
To complement this, I propose a flagship industry conference that focuses on a niche. Rather than requesting for generic sponsorship, we target their strategic interests which increases sponsorship opportunities as there is clearer brand alignment. This panel discussion will feature industry experts, elevating our reputation and connect our students.
As organising chairperson and Bartlett student ambassador, I led negotiations with Rasa Sayang for a value-exchange partnership by using our social media to promote their sponsorship. I also have experience in managing multi stakeholder interests when talking to parents, new students and the marketing team.
