Aidan Ho

Hi, I'm Aidan, a Year 2 student studying Maths. Hopefully to many of you at Mahjong Society, I have been a familiar face around the sessions, either checking tickets at the door, teaching the game to newcomers or helping with closing. Being involved has been the highlight of my time at university, and now that I have the opportunity, I would love to tackle more responsibility as Vice President to grow our society even more.

Over these two years of being at the committee, I have had a lot of first hand experience at running Mahjong Society's many socials and events, whether it be the Bubble Tea collaboration with Taiwanese Society or the Inter-Uni Mahjong Competition hosted by UCL this year. I will ensure that the high quality of service that our committee provides everyone will continue into next academic year, letting everyone enjoy mahjong and more.

As Vice President, I will make sure all members’ voices are heard; whether it’s feedback on events, suggestions for improvements, or new ideas. I’ll always make time and be easy to reach for everyone who wants to share their experiences, ask questions and raise concerns.

Most importantly, I hope that everyone entering a Mahjong Society-run event will be able to play as much mahjong as they want, and leave the room happier than they entered it.

Thank you so much for spending the time to read this, and I hope I will be able to help protect the welcoming and fun environment that made me enjoy my time here!

Aidan Lin

I am running for Vice President because I have truly enjoyed every session, not only the game itself, but also the warmth and encouragement I received from the committee members. Their care has created a welcoming environment that feels like home, and I hope to carry this spirit forward into the coming year and make the society even better.

Eight years ago, I began learning mahjong by sitting beside my grandpa, carefully observing him play with his friends. Growing up with the game and becoming skilled in both Hong Kong and Taiwanese style mahjong has given me a deep familiarity with its rhythm and atmosphere. I understand how to balance a lively environment with the focused intensity that makes mahjong exciting, and I hope to bring this energy to the society through strategic, enjoyable, and welcoming sessions.

Over the years, mahjong has strengthened my patience, ability to think critically under pressure, assess probabilities, and adapt to change. Together with my experience organising charity events in sixth form, it has developed my communication skills and sportsmanship, teaching me to remain respectful and resilient in competitive settings while fostering harmony and preparing me to take on responsibility and contribute effectively in this role.

If I am selected, I will:

  • organise more beginner workshops and both intra- and inter-university tournaments.
  • ensure every member feels included.
  • collaborate with more societies.
  • increase ticket availability for each mahjong session.
