Being part of Live Music has genuinely been such a fun and welcoming experience, even as a first-year, and I’d love the chance to give back and help create that same sense of belonging for others.

One of the main things I hope to do next year is bring back LM Families; having been unofficially “adopted” myself (s/o to Diana & Yuki my mamas <3), I know how much having that immediate support system and social circle can help new members settle in. In addition to this, I would love to organise more low-pressure socials, things like coffee mornings, game nights, and trips to explore the local music scene, so that members can get to know each other outside of shows; creating these relaxed social spaces makes it easier for everyone to engage more deeply with the society itself. As Social Sec, I’d also run collaborations with other societies and informational sessions to give members a clearer insight into how productions run and what leadership roles actually involve, as making these processes more visible would help make getting involved feel less intimidating for everyone.  Another key part of this society for me is making sure everyone feels supported, no matter their instrumental experience. This could include beginner-friendly workshops, and more open jam sessions to help members grow musically and feel confident joining in.

At the end of the day, music is all about community and having fun, and I’m so excited to help people connect and make new friends in LM next year <3

HELLO

This will be my 4th (and possibly final) year at UCL, so I will be very keen to make the most and socialise lots before going into the non-existent job market.

The perspective I'd bring to this role:

  • To my knowledge, the LM budget (which is very healthy, mind you - do the maths on rhapsody ticket sales) could be leveraged further. There's so much going on in London and I don't think we should limit ourselves to just in-house socials (Mullys, Phineas etc.). I love these, but there's definitely more we can do.
  • There are ample LM uncs, and I appreciate it can be somewhat daunting to try and integrate yourself into friendships and groups that have been developed over many a year, and many a show. As such, I would aim for a healthy balance - casual socials, and also ones that include ice-breakers and activities that force people to chat, so at the next event they aren't nursing a Pravha (or a 0% Heineken), checking tomorrow's timetable, and watching Creep be performed for the 2nd time tonight. Also, I feel there's a big disconnect between the cast-based social life and the general LM social life. This should change!
  • Communication! Notice times for socials should be as far in-advance as possible. Furthermore, perhaps a more regular social schedule à la the sports societies (I'm not proposing an LM Scala trip, don't worry) would further encourage attendance. IE if there is a social every other week on ___day, attendance will naturally improve.
  • Open-door policy for any ideas.
