Hi, I’m Aya, and I’m running for Vice President of the Lebanese Society because Lebanon has always been more than just where my family is from, it is a place that has shaped my identity, my values, and my sense of community.
Growing up between the Middle East and Lebanon, I have always understood how important it is to maintain cultural connection abroad. For many of us at UCL, Lebanese Society is not just another student society; it is a place where we can share language, culture, humor, and experiences that feel like home.
My experience across UCL societies has given me the skills to help strengthen and grow that community, including:
Events Committee, UCL Arab Society, organized major cultural events including the annual ArabSoc Iftar, supporting logistics and creating spaces where students could connect over shared culture and traditions.
External Relations, UCL Fashion Business Society, secured speakers and partnerships with industry professionals, including representatives connected to Vogue, helping organize professional and networking events for students.
Policy & research work in Lebanon, Worked with leadership at Hôtel-Dieu Hospital in Beirut on policy research addressing corruption in private healthcare, an experience that deepened my commitment to Lebanon and its future.
As Vice President, my goal is to make Lebanese Society a place where Lebanese students — and anyone interested in Lebanon — feel connected, supported, and proud of our culture.
