Law for All Society: Welfare Officer

I’m standing for Welfare Officer because I care about making Law for All feel genuinely supportive, especially for students who may already feel that the legal space wasn’t designed with them in mind. Access to the profession isn’t just about opportunities, it’s also about confidence, belonging, and feeling understood.

Writing regularly for the blog has helped me engage with the issues our members actually think about, whether that’s access, confidence, imposter syndrome, or just figuring things out as we go. It’s shown me that behind every application or achievement, there’s usually a lot of pressure that people don’t always talk about.

If elected, I’d want to make sure welfare is something we actively think about, not just a title. That could mean informal check-ins during busy periods, making support options clearer, and helping create events that feel welcoming rather than intimidating. Sometimes just knowing someone is there to listen makes a difference.

I’d also want to collaborate closely with the committee so welfare isn’t treated as separate from the society’s mission, but embedded within it. Law for All should not only widen access to the profession, but support the wellbeing of those working towards it. I’d approach the role with empathy, consistency, and a real commitment to listening.

Hi! My name is Sienna, and I would love to be your next Welfare Officer for Law for All Society.

I am approachable, patient, and always happy to help. I want to be a friendly, supportive presence within the society. I'd love to be someone you feel comfortable turning to, whether you need advice, reassurance, or simply someone to listen.

I am adaptable and confident in handling a range of situations. I am a swimming teaching for children aged 3–12 so I have received safeguarding training and developed strong skills in responsibility, communication, and care. This role has strengthened my ability to listen without judgement and support others with empathy and understanding.

If I was elected, I would introduce ‘family systems’ within the society to help foster a more inclusive and welcoming environment. I have grown up in a very community-orientated family, and having such a strong support system has been invaluable to me. I would love to help create that same sense of belonging within our society, so that every member feels supported and included.

My name is Darcie Dudding, and I am a 1st year student studying Anthropology.

Law for All is a society bound by ideals of academic diversity and equal opportunity, supporting those who desire a future in the legal sector, which makes student well-being especially important within this Society. Balancing demanding coursework, career aspirations, and extracurricular commitments can be overwhelming at times. I believe that academic success and professional ambition should be supported by a strong, inclusive, and understanding community. I would love to help foster an environment where members feel comfortable sharing concerns, supporting one another, and prioritising their mental health alongside their studies. 

If elected, I would like to introduce relaxed socials to help members build supportive connections beyond academic settings. I would also actively promote mental health awareness and ensure members are signposted to relevant university support services whenever needed. I would aim to ensure that every member of the Law Society feels valued, supported, and included.
