I am running for treasurer to ensure UCL Kazakh society's growth in the coming year by providing a strong, reliable foundation.

Maxim Mueller

I first got interested in Kazakhstan and Kazakh culture after spending a month living and working in Almaty in the summer of 2025. During my time there I saw many amazing sights both in and around the city and afterwards I sought to deepen the connection that I had developed by joining Kazakh society. I've attended numerous fun events and met many interesting and welcoming people in my time at Kaz-Soc and I hope that as treasurer I will be able to give back to and help out at the society that has provided me with so much.

As a student whose studies centre around Economics, I would consider myself to have the required skills one usually expects from a treasurer. Economics has provided me with the financial knowledge and numerical skills needed to keep the society books balanced and running smoothly. Put simply, as treasurer I promise to keep our events profitable and - unlike my bank account - I plan to avoid letting the balance dip into the red.

I understand that I am not the traditional treasurer one would expect at a society such as Kaz-Soc, but I hope that by being elected, Kazakh society can show that Yedige's aim of building the society through 'engaging Kazakh and non-Kazakh students in events and celebrations of Kazakh culture' will have been more than realised. I also hope to help further grow inter-societal bonds through my connections in the Russian and German socs and thereby share Kazakh culture on an even broader scale than has already been done.

Hi everyone! I’m Aizhan and I’m running for Treasurer of the Kazakh Society.

Over the past year I’ve been looking for more ways to get more involved with the society, especially as I’m going into third year soon and I know I’m really going to miss being part of this community once I graduate. Being around other Kazakh people at university has always meant a lot to me, so I would love the chance to contribute more to the society before finishing my time here.

A fun full-circle moment is that I actually attended the Central Asian Festival at UCL back in 2017, way before I knew I would end up studying here. It’s crazy to think that I now get to attend that same event years later, but with friends instead of family :).

I also already have experience in a similar role, as I’m currently serving as Treasurer for the Life Sciences Society this year. Through that position I’ve been responsible for managing budgets, arranging reimbursements, tracking spending, and making sure everything runs smoothly financially. If elected, I would make sure the society’s finances are well organised, transparent, and planned carefully so we can run events smoothly and make the most of the society’s funds.

And of course, I promise to keep the finances in check - no mysterious “lost” funds or late payments. Thank you for your support!
