As a proud member of the JiuJitsu Club, joining has been one of the best decisions I’ve made at university. The inspiring, kind and supportive community makes every session joyful and lively, even on the most exhausting days. As such, I would love the opportunity to give back by serving as Welfare Officer. Firstly, I will ensure all formal welfare responsibilities are met, including proper injury reporting and access to appropriate medical support. Just as importantly, I will act as a representative voice for members’ physical and mental well-being, ensuring concerns are listened to and addressed. Beyond this, I want to cultivate an environment where everyone feels valued, seen and comfortable. This means checking in on members, celebrating birthdays and organising low-pressure socials such as walks or coffee catch-ups to help people connect outside training and ensure no one feels isolated. Additionally, I am committed to promoting inclusivity and upholding zero tolerance towards discrimination, racism or sexual harassment, by supporting initiatives such as TeamUCL Against Hate and other diversity-focused campaigns. Finally, I will support my fellow committee members through busy periods, helping us work together to create a club culture where everyone feels safe, included and excited to step onto the mats.

UCL Jitsu is a warm and welcoming team in which everyone is welcome, and I am committed to supporting our friendly atmosphere and giving people help when they need it.

The current team is a safe space that has been built through the hard work of the current committee, and I aim to maintain this as welfare secretary.

I will be available on and off the mat to listen to members whenever they need help without judgement and with confidentiality. I am familiar with the support resources on offer from UCL and from other places such as local GPs and can signpost members to them where needed.

I look forward to working with our team and ensuring that everyone at UCL Jitsu is safe, learning and having fun!
