Siddhant Mathur

Hi I'm Sid!

I think you should vote for me to be Treasurer. Here's why:

I believe my background makes me a great fit for this role:

  • Since secondary school, I have run a non-profit organisation with over 50 students across 4 countries, effectively fundraising over 3800 pounds for effective cause areas. This past winter, I successfully organised a winter coats appeal for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, successfully donating over 1000 coats to disadvantaged communities in London. My capability to manage our fixed budget of 150 pounds to maximise these results shows my ability to manage fixed resources for results.
  • While in secondary school as the Deputy Head Pupil Librarian, I was able to apply for and leverage a 250 pound budget to organise multiple events throughout the year, including public speaking competitions, organise speakers and even set up a cross-school quiz with over 120 students across multiple schools. This demonstrates my capability to apply for and leverage funds effectively to manage significant projects.

I'm incredibly passionate about investing, and I firmly believe that this subject has the capability to make impactful, long-lasting change through meaningful action.

So I'd really appreciate your vote! Please do vote for me!

I’m running for the Investment Society'sTreasurer because I don’t see the role simply as someone who “keeps the books”,I see it as someone who engineers the society’s capital allocation strategy.

What differentiates me is that I’ve managed money in three completely different environments: teaching 190 families how to track every dollar they earned, analysing cost-efficiency under corporate constraints during my internship and allocating emergency funds during a pandemic where every decision had human consequences. I’ve built budgeting templates from scratch, conducted variance analysis when projections didn’t match reality, and reported transparently when accountability truly mattered.

But beyond technical skill,I think like an allocator. I naturally ask: what is the marginal return of this event? Does this speaker generate long-term member value? Is this sponsorship structured optimally? As Treasurer, I wouldn’t just record transactions ,I would design clear financial dashboards, forecast event cash flows, stress-test budgets against lower-than-expected turnout, and ensure every pound compounds in value for members.

The industry is defined by discipline, risk awareness, and strategic deployment.I bring that mindset.I want our finances to reflect the same precision and intentionality that we discuss in our workshops. That alignment between what we learn and how we operate is why I’m running.

Barnaby Griffiths

Over the past year, I have played a central role within the Investment Society as Head of Conference, leading the organisation of the 16th Anniversary UCLIS Finance Conference in October. Managing the budget for a project of this scale gave me first-hand experience of the financial planning and operational discipline required to run one of the society’s flagship events.

What I bring:

  • Budget management: Oversaw the full financial planning for the UCLIS Finance Conference, ensuring resources were allocated effectively and the event was delivered £1,000 under budget.
  • Cost negotiation: Successfully negotiated with suppliers to achieve a 40% reduction in total costs, demonstrating a disciplined approach to financial management.
  • Operational insight: Worked closely with multiple teams across the society while preparing the conference, giving me a clear understanding of how funding decisions impact events, partnerships, and member experience.
  • Commitment: This is the only society role I am running for in 2026/27, and I will be fully committed to supporting the society throughout the year.

As Treasurer, I want to bring the same financial discipline and attention to detail that allowed the conference to be delivered under budget. My aim is to ensure the society’s resources are managed responsibly so that every initiative (from large flagship events to smaller opportunities for members) has the financial backing it needs to succeed.

Mubaraq Olaniyi

I am standing for Treasurer because I want to bring financial discipline, accuracy, and strong organisational skills to a society that plays a major role in developing investment knowledge and professional opportunities at UCL. My experience managing financial operations, improving data accuracy by 95%, and resolving $130,000 in discrepancies has prepared me to handle budgets responsibly, maintain transparent records, and ensure that every financial decision is grounded in reliable information.

I also bring leadership experience from serving as the General Coordinator of Excel Minds, where I managed teams, oversaw logistics, and ensured projects were delivered on time. This strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, organise resources effectively, and stay accountable for outcomes, qualities that are essential for a Treasurer working with sponsors, speakers, and a busy committee.

The Investment Society’s focus on financial literacy, markets, and professional development aligns closely with my background in accounting, investment analysis, and operational improvement. I am motivated to support the society by ensuring its finances are well managed, compliant, and structured to enable high‑quality events and initiatives throughout the year.

I want to contribute reliability, professionalism, and a strong analytical mindset to the committee, helping the society continue to grow and deliver value to its members.

Jim(Juncong) Deng

Hey guys, my name is Jim, I'm here to apply for Treasurer of UCL Investment Society.

I am standing for this position because I have developed a strong interest in financial management and disciplined capital allocation through my own investing experience. Over time, I have independently studied company valuation and financial statements, building a structured approach to accessing sustainability, risk, and long-term value creation.

I manage a personal investment portfolio of over £40000, which requires careful capital allocation, risk assessment and continuous performance monitoring. This experience has strengthened my understanding of diversification, liquidity management, and the importance of maintaining financial resilience under uncertainty.

Exploring value-oriented investing has further reinforced my focus on balance sheet strength, downside protection, and prudent risk control. These principles have shaped a disciplined mindset centred on responsibility rather than short-term gains.

As Treasurer, I would apply this structured and risk-aware approach to ensure transparent budgeting, responsible cost control, and long-term financial sustainability for UCLIS. By allocating resources strategically and maintaining financial discipline, I aim to support operational efficiency while also expanding sponsorship partnership to maximise value for members.
