Felix Glynn-Baker

I believe that the ability for students to gain first-hand experience and develop tangible skills related to their career paths is driven by the variety of events offered at UCL Investment Society. Opportunities such as participation in company insights led by current employees and management of real capital in student investment funds are irreplaceable. As the former CFO of a student company, I hope to bring my organisational expertise and financial insight together to help coordinate valuable events throughout the upcoming calendar year.

I would aim not only to host events more frequently, but also to work in close collaboration with the marketing and outreach teams to more-effectively gather and respond to feedback from both members and speakers. In my experience, after building adequate foundational knowledge of the finance industry from other talks, my development was helped most by events in which I took a more practical role. Thus, I would like to ensure that via collaborations with fellow societies from UCL or the wider UOL, we can offer a greater range of activities such as company-sponsored networking events and case-study workshops, so that members can build the skillsets required for financial careers. I would also like to further expand our capacity for guest speakers to present to larger audiences, whilst also contributing to the growth of a prestigious and established society at UCL that consistently produces capable students prepared for careers in finance.

Christina Liu

Hi, I’m Christina, a first-year Geography and Economics student at UCL. I enjoy trying new things, even when I am not perfect at them, from horse riding and boxing to learning guitar, because growth comes from stepping outside my comfort zone. In high school, I was President of the Economics Society, the largest academic society in my school, where I organised weekly events, led discussions on economic topics, and brought students together to learn and connect. That experience showed me how fulfilling it is to create welcoming space, which I hope to bring to the Investment Society’s events.

I am running for Event VP because I admire what the UCL Investment Society offers. It provides hands-on financial education, real-world experience, and strong professional development. Through initiatives such as the real-money investment fund, mentorship, speaker events, workshops, and the Finance Conference, the society builds both skills and industry connections. I would love to help make these opportunities even more inclusive.

If selected, I would shape a calendar that is informative and approachable, including technical sessions such as market analysis, panels with speakers and alumni, and social events that combine learning with connection. I would also collaborate with other finance societies to widen reach and improve promotion so more members feel encouraged to attend. My goal is for every event to feel welcoming and relevant, helping members build skills, confidence, and networks.

I am running for Investment Society Events Officer because after attending so many of the society’s talks, workshops and networking sessions this year, I’ve seen how transformative well-designed events can be for students exploring careers in markets, asset management and finance more broadly. My goal is to help create events that are not only informative, but genuinely engaging, accessible and professionally valuable. Through my experience organising 1,000-person events as a Floor Manager and coordinating multi-event programmes in my leadership roles, I have developed strong skills in logistics, stakeholder communication, scheduling and ensuring smooth run-of-show execution. My work delivering speaker sessions and networking events as an Events Officer has given me hands-on experience in guest outreach, communications and attendee engagement. Combined with my finance internship, where I built cash-flow scenarios, reviewed financial documents and gained exposure to real-world financial decision-making, I understand the technical and professional interests of our members. As Events Officer, I aim to bring in high-impact speakers, expand practical skill-building sessions, improve the event experience and strengthen partnerships that give members deeper insight into the investment world. My focus is to ensure every event feels polished, meaningful and tailored to students’ ambitions.

Deanna Mistry

I am nominating myself for this position because I am passionate about creating meaningful, engaging experiences that empower students pursuing careers in finance. I have gone through numerous obstacles to reach a point where I can break into the industry over the last few years. This is the reason I would like to become a part of the committee.

I’m still discovering my path in finance, so I have experienced how valuable it is to attend events such as the annual finance conference. I want to make events further accessible by collaborating with the committee to expand professional connections with alumni and firms. I am particularly motivated to curate a diverse range of events, from technical workshops and employer panels to networking evenings, that cater to different interests and stages within finance.

I am highly organised and proactive, qualities that are essential for delivering well-executed and impactful events. I am confident that my reliability and commitment to the society’s purpose will enable me to contribute positively and help elevate the society’s presence this year.

Networking, mentorship, and access to opportunities can make a huge difference in helping students succeed in the finance industry. I am eager to strengthen our partnerships and expand our event portfolio to ensure they provide real value to our members.

I believe I am the right fit for the role because I combine strong organisational skills with a genuine enthusiasm for bringing people together.

Sara Singh

I am standing for Investment Society Event Officer because I combine proven commitment to the Investment Society with strong leadership experience and a clear understanding of what makes events impactful. As First Year Representative, I worked closely with the committee in the set-up of an insight event with Standard Chartered, and outreach to clients for events. This gave me practical experience liaising with external professionals and ensuring events delivered genuine value.

Having attended numerous UCL Investment Society workshops and speaker events, I understand that the most successful events balance technical insight with interactive engagement; something that UCLIS always delivers. As a BSc Economics student with a strong quantitative background, I value academically rigorous yet accessible content, and I would aim to expand events across areas such as asset management, investment banking, fintech, and sustainable finance.

Alongside this, my leadership experience sets me apart. As Head Girl, I have spoke to audiences of over 300 and represented my school at major events, developing confidence, organisation and accountability. As Captain of the Robotics Team and Founder of the Economics Society at school, I led teams of 20 and organised initiatives with more than 1000 participants such as an 11+ examination day, from the ground up. I am proactive, reliable and ready to lead, and I will work to deliver high-quality, well-executed events that elevate the society’s impact.
