While discovering the society this year, what most inspired me has been the consistent opportunities to volunteer with children. There is always a range of roles available, giving plenty of choice in how to make an impact in the community.

What I like the most about this role of being volunteering officer is the fact that you are in charge of creating and presenting the opportunities to volunteer. This means that I would be able to engage with different children's charities and understand more how they work.

In addition, I like the fact that there are valuable skills that can be gained from this role. Firstly, organising events. This is something I would like to learn as I haven't yet had the opportunity to. Secondly, as there is a monthly newsletter to write, this would be an opportunity to develop my writing skills in a creative and fun way. This year I have started to be a mentor to a child, and this has taught me to organise sessions, be patient and clear in communication, and consistently turn up for my mentee. This is something I would be able to bring to the role. If I am chosen I will be consistent through the year and motivated to find the best opportunities.

"People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."

Someone shared this with me a few years ago, and it has stayed with me ever since. This truth drives my passion to stand for the Volunteering Officer role at UCL Voices for Children.

Having been part of the committee last year, I’ve already seen the passion, dedication and potential within our society. That experience gave me insight into how we operate, what works well, and where we can grow — and it’s exactly why I feel ready to take on this role with both continuity and fresh energy.

To me, volunteering is about heart, connection and making a tangible impact together. I want to be the spark that lights up our community with passion, purpose and belonging, by building a network bursting with energy, where every volunteer feels valued, inspired and ready to make a real difference.

With my experience leading member engagement and organising events over the last few years, I'm eager to strengthen our existing partnerships, reach out to new organisations, and create unforgettable opportunities for our volunteers. But this role is more than just managing. It is about inspiring a movement of passionate individuals united to create change for children worldwide.

If you believe, like I do, that genuine care transforms volunteering from a task into a powerful force for good, then let's build that force together at UCL.
