Valentino Thomas

Hi everyone! After an absolutely incredible year as President of the Club, I've made the decision to step down and not run for President again!

However, I am putting myself forward for the Trip Coordinator for our Hiking Club!!

So far this year, I have been doing all sorts of crazy with the club! As I am not running again for the same position, I hope to bring forward my experience and energy from being President, and channel this into making our future club trips an inspiring, welcoming, and quite simply awesome place to be!!

Some Creative Ideas I’ve Got In Mind For Next Year:

  • Members get to pitch their dream residential destinations!!
  • LOTS of trips!!
  • Some of my dream destinations (that are maybe viable for club trips);
    • Madeira, Tenerife, Picos, French/Swiss Alps, Dolomites, Albania, Bulgaria, Greece (Mount Olympus), Morocco
    • SCOTLAND - any and all of it
    • Anywhere else with good views

If you've had a great time in the club this year, and if you would like to show your support as a thank you, please take 2 minutes to vote!!

Thank you all for such an awesome year!

Wren Clarke

We've traveled here, there and everywhere with the club (especially south of London).

I, Wren Clarke, want to continue this precedent, and explore even further afield!

What can you expect if I am elected?

  • More trips, with more destinations and even more hiking fun
  • Polls to find out where YOU want to go
  • High organisation but the fluidity to be fun and relaxing
  • Harder routes for the more experienced
  • Opportunities to hone navigational and life skills
  • Strong leadership of the trips team, supporting them would be critical to me
  • Open communication about the plans for trips
  • Trips abroad with enough notification for Visas
  • An expectation of keeping costs low and subsidising where applicable

Let's travel farther, together and make more incredible memories to take with us after uni!

Hi Hiking Club Members,

It’s been such a highlight getting to hike, travel, and make lasting friendships with so many of you during our residentials, social events, and weekend hikes this year. If we haven’t met yet, I’m Kelvin. A half Kiwi, half Polish undergrad who’s been passionate about outdoor activities like hiking, trail running, and kite surfing for as long as I can remember. This year, it’s been an honour to serve on the sub-committee as Junior Route Officer, working alongside Declan to deliver our weekend hikes, and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying he’ll be greatly missed when he leaves at the end of Term 3.

Looking to next year, my aims if elected as Trip Coordinator will be to bring the learnings from my sub-committee role to the trips team. I want to deliver exciting destinations that we already have in the pipeline, alongside my own ideas for new places to explore. This will 100% include a Pyrenees (Spain/Andorra) trip, a region close to my heart as someone who grew up in Barcelona, and a trip I’ve been eager to bring to the club for some time.

Having been part of the sub-committee this year, I’m confident I can hit the ground running. I’m already familiar with the club’s internal logistics, route-planning software, and the behind-the-scenes work that makes our trips run smoothly, which means I can focus on turning these ideas into reality from day one.

Here’s to an exciting year of trips with UCL’s leading club.

Some of my fondest memories growing up have been exploring the outdoors with friends on spontaneous weekend trips. In my first two terms as a UCL Hiking Society member I have ventured around the UK and met wonderful people along the way. During high school I was part of a student led outdoor education program called Post 84 where I planned, organized and staffed multi-night trips around Washington State to coastal islands and into the mountains. I hope to use my previous expierience and passion for the outdoors to assist the hiking society in planning adventure filled trips. Connections forged while in the outdoors are some of the strongest out there and I believe that everyone deserves the chance to expierience them. I'd love to be further involved with the hiking society next year and contribute to the welcoming environment that has made my time as a member so enjoyable.

I am standing for Trip Coordinator because after joining the Isle of Wight residential trip in February, I realised how important thoughtful planning and timing are in creating a truly enjoyable experience. Winter is not always the best season for hiking in the UK due to weather conditions, so if elected, I would consider organising an overseas trip during winter and arranging a UK-based residential during Easter, when the weather is more suitable for hiking and outdoor activities.

As a Walking Leader, I have already contributed actively to the club by guiding members during hikes, ensuring the group stays together, maintaining pace, and supporting others when needed. This role has strengthened my leadership, responsibility, and awareness of safety — all of which are essential when planning residential trips.

I am organised and confident in arranging accommodation and travel. For example, I am comfortable comparing transport options based on cost and efficiency, researching accommodation by checking reviews, safety, and location, and planning structured yet flexible itineraries that balance hiking, rest, and group activities.

If I become Trip Coordinator, I will also organise a vote for the destination so that members can have a say in where we go. I believe trips should reflect the interests of the whole club, not just one person’s decision.

Most importantly, I am proactive, responsible, and committed to helping create the highlights of our year.
