Hiking Club: Social Secretary

I might’ve needed a walking stick on my first (last) hike BUT I promise I won’t need a crutch if you vote me in as social secretary!! Hiking Club has been the perfect way to escape the chaos of London and actually touch some grass for a change. While the hikes are great, my favourite part has been meeting so many amazing people at the weekly socials. I’m running for Social Secretary because I love how these socials bring everyone together to relax, have fun, and form genuine friendships. I’ve made some great friends through the club and would love to give back by helping next year’s cohort have the same experience. So, vote me in and I'll do my best to make your experience with Hiking Club as memorable as mine!

Hi, I'm Saanvi! I'm running for Social Secretary because I love bringing people together, and have experience organising events at both high school and university level.

The hiking club has such a great community, and socials play a huge part in keeping that alive. I'd love to build on that with events that are fun and inclusive for all members. 

I'd like to introduce:
- Scavenger hunt walks: where teams compete to find things along a route
- Karaoke/ talent show night: evening for members to showcase their talents
- End of year hiking awards: fun superlatives celebrating the club's characters and memories

Beyond these, I'm always open to new ideas! My goal is to create a social calendar that reflects what our members want.

HI, I'm Peter and I'm running to be one of your social secretaries for the upcoming year. Since joining hiking club at the start of this year I have had an incredible experience through all aspects of the club, but especially in the socials. I'm hoping that I can give this same experience to everyone else in the society through these events, from all those this year including pub socials and game nights, to any and all that could be added next year, including those below:

• Day events across London: From scavenger hunts, to races across the city. This could give us a greater chance to explore the city we are in while keeping active and without the need for expensive trains tickets.
• Cross society events: Hiking club is the largest society at UCL. This gives us a great chance to explore all that other societies have to offer, from the arts, like baking socials, to cultural events, like Lunar new year.
• Larger residential socials: For all those that have had the great opportunity to join any residentials this year, you will know how much fun the night events, from icebreakers to baking, have been this year. I would like to make these even better and get more people involved in the events to make the residentials even more fun. 

Hiking society, particularly the socials and current social secretaries, have made the events feel exceptionally inclusive and fun. I hope to be able to continue this next year as your new social secretary. Thank you and I hope to work with you all next year.
