As a BA Communications student with passion for hiking and trail running, I am eager to contribute to UCL Hiking Club by enhancing its visibility, engagement, and community experience.
With a solid foundation in marketing, visual communication, and discourse design, combined with bilingual proficiency in Chinese and English, I am well-equipped to expand the club’s reach across diverse audiences and platforms. While our Instagram (@uclhiking) is already thriving, many other channels remain underutilised. I aim to optimise our existing presence and strategically develop additional platforms, creating tailored, high-quality visual and textual content that resonates with both local and international students.
Drawing on my experience in event management, I am confident in organising engaging activities during Welcome Week 2026, including beginner-friendly taster hikes, social mixers, and eye-catching promotional stalls to attract new members. Beyond freshers’ period, I plan to broaden internal and external communication by improving coordination among different sectors of the club — ensuring smoother event planning, clearer member feedback loops, and more inclusive experiences for everyone from walkers to experienced hikers.
I’m looking forward to contribute my knowledge and skills into UCL Hiking club, and make walking/hiking events become more popular and exciting, hope to see you in our walks/hikes!
I am standing to be your Communications and Marketing Officer because I believe the Hiking Club thrives not only because of stunning places we visit, but because of its sense of community. After all, we cry about the rain, the mud, and the occasional dubious routes we are led down, but we all head home with a smile on our faces. That sense of community is what keeps the club going, which is why we need clear, frequent communication and promotion of events to draw in members.
As Comms & Marketing Officer, I will make sure our event details are announced clearly, promptly, and in a fun way across all media channels, so no one misses out. Since a huge part of our club’s charm is where we go, I would love to highlight the places we see with engaging posts that share facts about local towns, their history, and any wildlife we might spot along the way. It can sometimes be hard to appreciate the beauty of our destinations (hello, sun?), so this initiative will give our members even more to look forward to on our hikes. Speaking of sun, I also want to provide pre-hike reminders for fellow hikers to bring gear to brave the weather. My past experience leading part of a yearbook team and promotion of a school fashion show are perfect for this.
I believe I would be a good fit for this role, not only because I am organised, enthusiastic, and proactive, but because I understand that the driving force behind our club’s success is not just the hikes or socials, but the community behind them.
