Green Economy Society: Welfare Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Jake, a first-year History student.

I’m applying for the role of Welfare Officer because societies work best when members feel welcome, supported and comfortable participating. A strong community encourages people to engage confidently with new ideas and discussions.

My interest in the Green Economy Society has grown through attending events such as the panel on “Financing the Green Transition.” Hearing practitioners discuss how governments, lenders and private investors collaborate to deliver major renewable and infrastructure projects highlighted the financial and political challenges behind achieving net zero.

Alongside this, I volunteer with the Grassroots Human Rights Project, where I help organise and deliver workshops that encourage participation and discussion within group settings. This experience has reinforced the importance of creating environments where everyone feels comfortable contributing.

As Welfare Officer, I would aim to help maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere within the society so that all members feel confident engaging with its events and conversations.
