Angelica Bidlack

Dear fellow Government and Politics Society Members,

My name is Angelica, and I am a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics student. I am excited to run for being Head of Events in the Government and Politics Society!

I have always enjoyed bringing people together and creating engaging events. One example that aligns closely with this role is my experience as a student representative at my previous school, where I organized bi-weekly assemblies, fun seasonal events, and, most relevant to this position, a monthly speaker series. In the speaker series we had people with diverse professions and backgrounds share their career to high school students. We had people from all sorts of backgrounds– from Harvard economists and historians to fashion curators from the Museum of Fine Arts– provide inspiration to students navigating potential careers.

I am confident that I can work well with both you and the committee to create fulfilling events that support your academic journey, social lives at UCL, and career goals. I look forward to working with you, whether being your Head of Events or as an active member of the Government and Politics Society. Thank you for considering me – I would love the opportunity to kickstart engaging events with you!

~ Angelica :)

Aya Bou Sraih

Hi, I’m Aya, and I’m running for Head of Events for the Government and Politics Society because I want to organize events that bring students closer to real political debate, policy, and public affairs.

My academic and professional experiences have focused on politics, law, and international affairs, and I want to use that background to bring relevant speakers and discussions to the society.

Relevant experience:

Journalism & Political Affairs Intern (mentored through Al Jazeera) – Assisted with research for political interviews and investigative segments while attending editorial meetings focused on Middle East politics and public affairs.

Legal Casework Analyst, AMICUS (London) – Conduct legal research on US capital punishment cases, reviewing trial records and preparing briefing materials for advocacy and legal teams.

Policy Officer, Hôtel-Dieu Hospital (Beirut) – Co-authored research on corruption in private healthcare in the MENA region and presented policy recommendations to leadership.

Education Policy Intern, Step-by-Step School (Doha) – Engaged with regional education boards and policymakers on inclusive education initiatives.

Editor-in-Chief, ASD Times – Led a student newsroom covering political and humanitarian issues including conflict and global development.

As Head of Events, I would organize speaker panels with journalists, policymakers, and lawyers, debates on current affairs, and career events in government, law, and international policy.
