Jiahe Yu

Hi I'm Jiahe.

I might not be the best candidate, but I'm likely the candidate with the most difficult name to pronounce. Having enjoyed every event at GenSoc this year (one of my highlights is the Plant Biology Journal Club), as well as the fun and fulfillment working alongside the current team, I'm ready to take on this challenge for another year.

How the Journal Clubs will look like:

  • Diversity: I will invite speakers from within UCL to across London, whose research cover areas from fundamental evolutionary biology to applied medicine.
  • Interaction: I will focus every session on fostering curious-driven discussions. I will do this by giving prompts and using fun and innovative formats, such as "how to read a paper for internship applications".
  • Practicality: I will host more sessions focused on practical skills, such as coding. Or, learning how to do "real" research, such as solving real problems you come across in research. This will help you build experience without having to do an internship.
  • Accessibility: I will work with the researchers to ensure content delivered can be understood by a diverse audience, even if you don't do genetics! Or, change your mind about something you weren't interested in.

Of course, they will still be as academic as they are!

Why you should vote me:

  • So I have a year's time to teach everyone how to say my name.
  • So the journal clubs are academic, fun and open to all.

Genetics is fun, and everyone should be able to taste that. Vote me to make it happen.
