Game Development Society: Media and Communications Officer

I know how to edit videos and would consider myself creative so I can provide high quality reels and posts to the game dev society instagram page. I can also manage social media like discord servers and X pages. The goals of these pages will be to not only advertise the society, but help publicise projects made within the society. 

While I would prefer the spot of president and will uphold the same responsibilities in that position if not more, I will still try my best to be an asset to the society if I get this position. 

My goals here will include:

• deepening the relationship with the game dev society of other unis
• help make reels for events to attract more members
• help with finding sponsors
• help with publicity for projects made within the society
• find and train people to continue maintaining the instagram account

I’m applying for Media and Communications Officer because I believe the society has a lot of untapped potential in how we engage people online. While information reaches committed members through WhatsApp, our Instagram and Discord don’t yet reflect the creativity or activity happening across the society. I want to build a more active and consistent presence that showcases projects, promotes events, and encourages real interaction rather than passive updates.

Over the past five months I’ve had a genuinely great experience working within my group, largely because we communicate regularly and stay engaged with each other’s work. I know not everyone has had that same level of connection, and I want to help create the structures and visibility that make it easier for more members to find their place, collaborate, and stay involved.

My priority is engagement: creating an online space that energizes both new and existing members, highlights what people are making, and ties media output to more frequent, visible activities. If people can see what’s happening and feel part of it, they’re far more likely to contribute, stay active, and help the society grow.
