Heyya!
I’m Karl, a second year Computer Science student.
I started dancing last year when I joined this society. My first ever dance class was a Freestyle Dance Society hip hop taster class after which I just fell in love with this society. Going to a freestyle dance workshop or open space every week and seeing those same faces and dancing in this supportive space will forever be one of my favorite memories of uni.
I know freestyle dancing is insanely intimidating, especially if you’re new to dance. When it comes to freestyle, confidence is key, which is why it’s extremely important that this society protects the welcoming and encouraging community it created, fostering a safe space for our members to feel comfortable to express themselves in dance and improve their freestyle.
I believe our current (and previous) president has done an amazing job at this, so it would be my goal to keep up this standard of our community.
As president I will also be determined to
- Run more (and a wider range of) workshops in the new academic year than we could manage this year.
- Organise more society socials to encourage more socialising :)
- Hold more inter-society events to make our society more inter-connected with other UCL societies.
- Host more battles to provide the experience of battling in a more laid-back environment.
To sum up. This society is very dear to my heart and I will most definitely do everything I can to ensure it keeps going and help set the foundations for it to truly prosper
