I’ve seen firsthand how FJS can have a genuine impact on students - I managed to land a spring week because of term 1’s topical debate sessions! Having had this experienced, I’m convinced that in the next few years this society can grow to become a flagship society for commercial awareness at UCL; and I’d love to utilise events to make this happen. As head of events, I want to create real opportunities for our members to listen and speak to professionals across the worlds of finance, commercial law and journalism - helping you build the knowledge and connections needed to improve your applications. I also want to make sure that we build upon what went well this year: more debates, educational sessions etc for students wishing to learn more about financial journalism. I’m confident that well ran events and my ideas can make this society a success next year and help its growth :)

As a Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance student, I am inspired by this society’s intention to translate real-world economics and geopolitics into compelling journalism and debating events. Although I do not major in economics, I have attended many debates and events through our society and the university, which has given me a deep appreciation of the society’s value. I am currently completing my year in industry placement, and as I return to university next year, I am eager to dedicate significantly more time to contributing to this community and its focus on student-led writing and discussion.

I am confident in my ability to organize high-quality events by drawing on my student leadership experience. Having managed networking events and industrial projects, I possess the organizational skills required to handle a busy society calendar. My goal as Head of Events is to facilitate our activities, whether fireside talks, writing workshops, or debates, by providing the best platforms for members to share their passion, showcase their work, and challenge ideas.
