I am standing for Welfare Officer as I believe that Film Society should be a place where people feel supported and safe within a welcoming and passionate community. We are one of the largest societies at UCL, meaning that it can sometimes feel intimidating to get involved either at socials or in the various opportunities available throughout the year. I want to ensure that everybody feels like being an active part of Film Society is exciting and inviting to all.
Being involved on various term film projects last year, I had the chance to feel part of a wonderful community which I think everyone should have the chance to experience. The Film Society opportunities bring together a variety of people with different interests and levels of experience into a determined, collaborative, and sometimes intense environment where open communication and compassion for each other is essential. By taking on the role of Welfare Officer, I want to ensure that the UCL Film Society community is renowned for being a supportive and welcoming society that everyone wants to be a part of.
Whether it is simply for a casual chat, a discussion about an issue, or a need to talk to someone, I want everyone within this society to feel like they can reach out to me about anything, no matter how big or small the issue is. As Welfare Officer, I will make it my priority to value everybody's voices equally, whether you want to watch some thrilling films and make friends, or try out a new role on a film set!
Helloooooo everyone, my name is Dorian Lee, but Dorian is fine... I grew up in France, and I’m 19, going into 3rd year. Film is the one thing that keeps me going, just watching or writing and making.
But enough about me.
I’m running for welfare, so it should be all about you lot!!
I remember being very intimidated when I first attended Filmsoc, with all the prestige and cool projects… But I also discovered it was such a welcoming place for everyone, and as a welfare officer, I intend to perpetuate that. Filmsoc must be a place for everyone, and everyone must know and feel it.
I wanna be your ally in this, a reliable point of contact that’ll be present and here for all at any time, whether you have a serious issue to discuss or just chat about film :) I want to be here to be supportive of the sheer talent in this society and ensure it’s at the detriment of nobody, and that everyone feels comfortable enough to flourish.
So if that sounds nice to you and you, please vote for me!!! And let’s all have a great time newt year
