Rowan Mair

Hi I'm Rowan, a first year BASc student and I love creating short films and videos in my spare time. I have experience shooting and editing paid client work, documentaries and a multi-award winning short film with the BFI. I've really enjoyed being part of the film society over the past few months, as a gaffer in term 1 and currently DP for term 2. I'm especially interested in the technical side of filmmaking: I love learning about new camera tech and I own a lot of my own gear. I also have years of experience editing in Davinci Resolve and I have built my own custom editing PC. I believe my technical proficiency makes me well suited for this role. As a SEIM, I would put my time and effort into organisation, ensuring each item has it's own place in order to avoid confusion and breakages. I would also aim to improve the equipment borrowing system, creating a transparent way for people to know where each item is and when spaces are availabe at all times to mitigate equipment loss and schedule clashes. I would fix or replace broken equipment in the studio and push for investment into new storage space and rigging components such as a working follow-focus to allow us to better optimise the cameras we already have. I would also look into running equipment and editing training sessions to give more people the confidence and ability to make more professional films. In short, I will ensure Filmsoc can provide you with all the tools, knowledge and space you need to start creating.
