Louis Philpott

As the current President of Film Society it is exciting to me to be exploring a new way to engage with my greatest passion -- helping as many people make their dreams a reality on screen. You need money to make your film... and that's where I come in!

This year I worked to ensure that in total thousands of pounds were put towards six individual students' projects. The highest number of Affiliate Films made in a single year by FilmSoc ever!

Next year I will:

  • Have in-person meetings with any student who has an idea which FilmSoc can potentially help to make (financially or equipment-wise or finding the right. collaborators etc.)
  • Connect filmmakers directly with Studio and Equipment Managers so they can have easy access to the professional equipment FilmSoc has to offer.
  • Encourage anyone, no matter their experience or background to see how here they can get their ideas made!

Next year I want to help even more people by frequently reminding students of this incredible unique opportunity which FilmSoc offers -- most members never seem to remember there's up-to £500 per-film up for grabs!

It's been a pleasure to be FilmSoc President this year, and I can't wait to see the exciting ways we can help everyone expand the horizons of their filmmaking careers in the year to come!

Nafeez Ahmed

Hi my name is Nafeez, and this is my second year running for FilmSoc! I was the Videography Officer last year, and was involved in many productions associated with FilmSoc - including filming the DanceSoc trailer, being cinematographer on Eve Dyson’s ‘RAW’, cinematographer on Aarohi Das-Vira’s Affiliate Film ‘Coconut’, and now in pre-production of my own Affiliate Film ‘To Fear Love’.

Having been heavily involved with the FilmSoc since first year, I’d love to be Affiliate Producer in the coming year. I know the difficulties of trying to make a film without funding and support, and so to be able to give those opportunities to students who want to make films of all sorts - whether it be comedies, action, dramas, thrillers - would be a privilege.

I’ve taken part in the past 3 term films, mainly in the camera and lighting department, though still supporting many other roles on set. Due to my experience on multiple sets, I’m capable of deciding which films should receive funding, and also giving support and advice to those films in how they can approach their production in the most efficient way possible.

So please vote for me as Affiliate Film Officer! It’d be a blessing to support as many people possible with getting their visions on screen, and especially in association with the Film Society. Term films can be super competitive, and to allow more films to be made alongside the society would be incredible.
