When I came to UCL last year, I was thrilled to see that there was a Women’s health society as this topic has been a passion and pre-occupation of mine for as long as I can remember. From my early fascination with pregnancy and childbirth to attending an all girl’s school and seeing the effects of reproductive health disorders and societal stigma, to seeing the gaps in scientific literature. Since studying Biomedical Sciences I have become more interested in the science and technology side, but I am still very much invested in the wider societal picture and personal experiences.
The events and opportunities provided by the society this year have been amazing, I have been to talks, networking, and social events each time coming away with new ideas and hope for the future of women's health. I want to be part of the committee to ensure that events like these and more can keep happening.
Though I am, for the most part, your usual nerdy scientist in the library all day, I also love talking to people and forming meaningful connections. In a field as broad as women’s health it’s important to bring people together and include everyone in conversations. I hope to be able to use my networking and communication skills to create a community around the society and get more people involved, I would love to have even more of an excuse to talk to people about women’s health!
Hi all!
My name is Inka and I'm a second year Biomedical Engineering student. I am standing for Alumni and Outreach Officer because I want to help students build alumni and industry networks and gain confidence for further studies and careers. University is not just about lectures or exams - it's about immersive experiences that help you explore possibilities, grow your network, and open as many doors as possible.
I am a responsible and organised individual who values proactivity, clear communication, and attention to detail. I am driven to make every initiative purposeful and engaging so that our community becomes stronger and more connected. I have experience organising and leading events through virtual work experience, planning and conducting interviews with Astrobiology researchers, which strengthened my initiative, networking abilities and professional communication.
As Alumni and Outreach Officer, I will bridge the gap between students, alumni and the wider professional world while fostering a welcoming atmosphere within the society. I will deliver a diverse range of activities, including alumni speed networking and industry guest speakers from a broad range of sectors, ensuring there is something for everyone. I will also support the society's social and wellbeing activities through joint dinners, charity fundraisers and casual networking.
Most importantly, I will listen to the community to deliver events that reflect their interests and ambitions.
Thanks for reading!
I am excited to nominate myself for the Women’s Health & FemTech Alumni and Outreach Officer position because I am passionate about advancing women’s health innovation and building meaningful professional communities that create real impact. I am confident that, with our collective efforts, our society will become a leading one in the near future. I am aware that our society does need strong networks, engaged alumni, and collaborative outreach, and I am therefore eager to contribute to strengthening those connections.
I am proactive, organised, and driven. I have experience reaching out to my school’s alumni and associates and organising medical society talks with them, so I possess the communication, time management, and collaboration skills needed for this role. The Women’s Health and FemTech Society has been one of my favourite societies this year, and I genuinely want to contribute to helping it grow over the next couple of years.
My ideas include organising talks, conferences, trips to clinics and companies, career panels, and various projects or competitions (where some of our alumni could act as judges). I would also love to explore organising volunteering opportunities. I am thrilled at the possibility of discussing my ideas with the team and seeing some of them put into action.
