Being a sub-editor at Era has been such an exciting part of my first year at UCL, and I think my skill set would be especially suited to acting as President next year. Era is a great team, so I already know how much I would enjoy working with everyone.

Era's life as a collective is just as important as its place as a publication. Casual conversations with Era colleagues, especially the editors-in-chief, have been my most important (and most enjoyable) guideline for understanding the brief and responding as best I can. I want to facilitate even more of these kinds of conversations as President by working with the EICs to add to the legendary in-person events (launches, workshops, etc.) that sharpen the discourse surrounding each edition, and to Era's community of contributors.

I have facilitated these kinds of events before as an event programmer at the Grant Museum and as Social Events Officer of the Genetics Society, and seen real success.

Having been President of a JCR at uni before, and also through conversations with the current team, I feel prepared to take on this administrative burden. I aim to make sure timely and informative correspondence remains the norm. Organisation is such a key part of a good 'user experience' at Era, and I believe really contributes to its good reputation.

All in all, I hope to be a friendly face to everyone in Era, managing the logistics so that each committee member can carry out their own role as easily as possible.

Hi! I’m Dan – a philosophy student and Era’s current Fiction and Poetry sub-editor. Over the past year, I’ve had the chance to meet many of you at socials and Era's creative writing workshops. I’m running for president of Era Journal because I want to continue building Era as a platform for UCL’s writers and artists to experiment, showcase, and hone their craft. My experience leading the fiction portion of our creative writing workshops this year has shown me that culture happens when people are in the same room. I think we need to be in the same room more often. If elected president, I want to spread what we have in Fiction and Poetry across the magazine. Concretely, within sections, this will look like an increase in events such as creative writing workshops, museum visits for Arts and Design, reading groups for Literature, viewings for Film and Theater, and live events for Music. I will also push for more cross-section events. By increasing contact between the members of our community, I believe that we will foster not only our creative potential, but also connect through our shared passion for arts and culture, i.e. the foundation of Era's high-caliber output. Era has something special, defined by each of its individual members and our access to the cultural scenes of London. As president, I will work closely with our team of editors and contributors to uphold the momentum we’ve gained over this past year to grow our reach both at UCL and beyond campus.
