According to UNICEF, currently 4 billion people suffer from severe water scarcity. This is almost two-thirds of the global population. As WASH Design Manager for Engineers in Action, I would have the opportunity to guide a team of UCL students and contribute to the society’s mission of developing sustainable engineering solutions to improve people’s quality of life.

Over the past year, I have been an active member of Engineers in Action and have gained valuable insight into the technical aspects of the project from Carolina and Lucia. I presented our work during RC meetings with Duke University and the University of Toronto, which strengthened my ability to communicate technical ideas in an international and multidisciplinary setting.

I have developed strong analytical and communication skills through my degree in Biochemical Engineering, and I am confident using tools like AutoCAD for design work. Additionally, I will be pursuing a minor in Environmental Engineering, which will help me build the technical knowledge needed for designing effective WASH solutions and initiate collaborations with professors where necessary.

Beyond academics, I have experience leading impactful initiatives, such as a plantation drive involving over 3,500 saplings in India that involved coordinating volunteers and logistics.

As WASH Design Manager, I would aim to contribute strong technical input while fostering collaboration within the team and supporting the values of Engineers in Action.

Hi! I’m Charlotte, and I’m standing to be your next WASH Design Manager.

This year, I’ve really enjoyed being involved with the team, presenting on review calls with other schools and working together to write up our reports. It’s given me a solid understanding of how our designs come together and how we collaborate across universities. If elected, I’d love to build on that experience. I plan to organize technical workshops in partnership with the other schools in our program, so we can align our work early and learn from each other. I also want to strengthen our community here at UCL, both within the WASH corp and with the rest of the society, through socials and internal collaboration. I’d also like to set up talks and speaker events that connect us with professionals in international development.

I’m excited about the year ahead, and I’d be grateful for your vote to help make it happen.

I am standing for WASH Design Manager because I really love our society, the people in it and the work we do. Being a WASH team member this year has been a lovely experience. I’ve learned a lot in the process, met lovely people and developed my skills. I am eager to continue doing that while contributing more and having more responsibility. I believe I am qualified for the position because not only does it require technical skills but also good communication ones. Given that we collaborate with other universities on our work, it is important to have clarity on the tasks and their distributions. I was the organiser of one of the largest international science fairs for students last year, managing over 215 participants, arranging travels for international jury members, raising funds, and collaborating with sponsors and media partners. The experience strengthened my leadership, organisation, and communication skills, which are all qualities I would bring to this role. Thank you for your consideration!
