Rodrigo Izquierdo Gonzalez

Hi, I'm Rodrigo, a first-year Mechanical Engineering student.

For me, this role is about creating more academic opportunities that actually connect what we study to the real world. I'd love to help organise events like careers fairs, hackathons and visits to engineering companies so students can see how engineering works outside the classroom. Experiences like these give us direct access to companies and practical experience.

I'd also work closely with the Sponsorship team to organise projects with companies, such as workshops or guest talks. At the same time, I'd like to collaborate with other departmental societies to create interdisciplinary projects since working across disciplines makes projects more realistic and gives us the chance to meet new people.

Overall, I want to help make engineering projects more accessible and engaging for everyone in Eng Soc.

During the implementation report of the local engineering project, I have progressed through the construction process decision framework. Then I successfully achieved the "technical group" and "system integration" crossroads. My local infrastructure design is currently in place with sustainable transportation and highly consistent public resources. If I am fortunate enough to become the executive, I will dedicate myself to executing club projects from the following three dimensions:

Architectural Analysis and Risk Mitigation: I will leverage a deep understanding of model assumptions to identify critical variables early on, ensuring that every project is built on a theoretically sound and audited foundation.

Strategic optimisation under multi-constraint environments: Focusing on system-level management to achieve Pareto efficiency and deliver optimal solutions that balance finite calculations, time and resources with high-performance requirements.

Vision-driven systems engineering: I will move beyond routine task management to build a self-evolving ecosystem that integrates in-depth design with real-world, demand-based execution.

To understand fully what engineering is it is important to see how we can imply it in real life. Strong connection in industry allow us to organise meetings and trips with professionals from different companies.

For me it's more than just a trip organisation, it is about creating the opportunities to network, ask questions and build connections which will last a lifetime.

I understand how important to be responsible, organised and proactive. I am excited to apply those skills for organising effective collaborative projects.

As an active member of UCLES, having learned directly from the current committee, I’ve gained first-hand insight into the range of opportunities the society offers. In particular, the numerous career-focused events and projects have been key to furthering my understanding of the number of different paths open to engineering graduates. Therefore, with my aspiration to further grow the society so that many more can benefit, bringing forth bigger and better initiatives will be of utmost importance.

As Engineering Projects Executive, I will strive to:

  • Create more industry-led opportunities:

Utilising the leadership and networking skills gained as the CFO for a student-led start-up in sixth form, I plan to work closely with both the sponsorship and events teams to increase industry partnerships through several hackathons, career fairs and office visits, offering greater exposure for our members to a wide range of companies.

  • Bring forth fresh and exciting ideas:

Through leveraging existing connections, I intend to organise termly alumni-focused events including fireside chats and career panels, offering alumni the informal opportunity to impart key advice and discuss their career journeys since they were once in our shoes.

In short, UCLES has contributed massively to my university experience, and I would be honoured to help lead the direction of the society’s projects and initiatives for the year ahead.

Together, let's continue growing our projects into real career pathways!
