Ashley Wong

Hi everyone! I’m Ashley, a second-year Sociology student and currently a Senior Associate in EIE. I’m excited to be running for Welfare Officer for the next academic year.

EIE has been a huge part of my university experience since first year. It’s pushed me outside of my comfort zone, helped me grow in confidence, and allowed me to develop valuable leadership and professional skills - but most importantly, it gave me a genuine sense of belonging.

As Welfare Officer, my priority would be strengthening that sense of community. University life can be exciting but also overwhelming, and I believe EIE should be a space where members feel supported both personally and professionally. I want to ensure that everyone feels comfortable speaking up, sharing ideas, and reaching out when they need support.

If elected, I would focus on:

- Creating more intentional well-being check-ins within committee and general members
- Organising low-pressure social spaces where people can connect beyond professional events
- Ensuring new members feel welcomed and integrated from the start
- Promoting an open, inclusive culture where everyone feels heard and valued

Coming from a Sociology background, I deeply value inclusion and representation, and I would work to make sure EIE continues to be a community where people from all backgrounds feel empowered to thrive.

It would truly be an honour to give back to the society that has given me so much. Thank you for your time and consideration!
