Hi I'm Sid!
I think you should vote for me to be Treasurer. Here's why:
I believe my background makes me a great fit for this role:
- Since secondary school, I have run a non-profit organisation with over 50 students across 4 countries, effectively fundraising over 3800 pounds for effective cause areas. This past winter, I successfully organised a winter coats appeal for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, successfully donating over 1000 coats to disadvantaged communities in London. My capability to manage our fixed budget of 150 pounds to maximise these results shows my ability to manage fixed resources for results.
- While in secondary school as the Deputy Head Pupil Librarian, I was able to apply for and leverage a 250 pound budget to organise multiple events throughout the year, including public speaking competitions, organise speakers and even set up a cross-school quiz with over 120 students across multiple schools. This demonstrates my capability to apply for and leverage funds effectively to manage significant projects.
I'm incredibly passionate about economics, and I firmly believe that this subject has the capability to make impactful, long-lasting change through meaningful action.
So I'd really appreciate your vote! Please do vote for me!
I'm standing for Treasurer because I care about the kind of community the Economics Society can be. While societies are often judged by their events and speakers, those things only work well when the finances behind them are managed properly.
Economics is about making the best use of limited resources, and I see this role as a chance to apply that in practice. I want to make sure our funds are managed responsibly and used to support things that genuinely benefit members - whether that's bigger speaker events, more accessible socials, or giving next cohort's first year reps the support and flexibility to run their own ideas and initiatives.
I also enjoy the organisational side of making things run smoothly. Budgeting and planning might not be the most visible parts of a society, but they're what make everything else possible. I'd want to work closely with next cohort's first year reps so they feel confident bringing forward ideas, knowing the financial side is clear and manageable. A Treasurer shouldn't just keep track of the numbers, but help the committee think about how we use our resources effectively.
Ultimately, I want the Economics Society to be a place where good ideas aren't held back by poor planning. With careful and transparent financial management, I hope to help create more opportunities, better events, and a stronger community for everyone involved. :)

I’m running for Treasurer because I don’t see the role simply as someone who “keeps the books”,I see it as someone who engineers the society’s capital allocation strategy.
What differentiates me is that I’ve managed money in three completely different environments: teaching 190 families in rural Cambodia how to track every dollar they earned, analysing cost-efficiency under corporate constraints during my internship and allocating emergency funds during a pandemic where every decision had human consequences. I’ve built budgeting templates from scratch, conducted variance analysis when projections didn’t match reality, and reported transparently when accountability truly mattered.
But beyond technical skill,I think like an allocator. I naturally ask: what is the marginal return of this event? Does this speaker generate long-term member value? Is this sponsorship structured optimally? As Treasurer, I wouldn’t just record transactions ,I would design clear financial dashboards, forecast event cash flows, stress-test budgets against lower-than-expected turnout, and ensure every pound compounds in value for members.
The industry is defined by discipline, risk awareness, and strategic deployment.I bring that mindset.I want our finances to reflect the same precision and intentionality that we discuss in our workshops. That alignment between what we learn and how we operate is why I’m running.
Helloo,
I’m Adam Zhou, I’m a first year student studying Economics, your current Treasurer, and an Academic Rep for the Class of 2028. I’m running again for the upcoming academic year because I loved my work here and want to keep building on the progress we have made.
For me, what defines our society is that we think big. This year, we have gone for bigger events, better partnerships, faster communication, and stronger visibility and next year, I want us to keep that energy. There is potential to secure more sponsors, bring in high-level speakers, and make opportunities that set our society apart.
This year, we pulled off the Econ Ball, which did not happen last year due to a lack of funding. Making that happen was a real milestone for the society. We have also heard your thoughts about the price of the ball, and next year we will work to make it more affordable.
Ambition is important, but it also needs structure. As the Treasurer, I make sure our biggest ideas have the funding to happen. Next year, we will continue expanding sponsor outreach and managing our budget carefully so that when we commit to something, we can deliver the best possible outcome.
As a course Rep, I’m also in regular contact with the faculty, which gives me access to communication between students, staff, and the committee.
I’m super motivated to see the Economist’s Society grow even more next year and I’m ready to support that growth fully.
Vote for me for free food and to take our society further together!
