Siddhant ("Sid!") Mathur

Hi, I'm Sid!

Vote for me!

As a 1st Year Academic Representative and Economics Correspondent at the UCL Economic Tribune, I have the transferable skills necessary to succeed in this role. As a secondary school librarian, I organised author talks and cross-school book quizzes with over 120 students attending.

Students tend to struggle with a 3 main issues:

  • Students are not always fully aware of the variety of career options available to them aside from the mainstream paths.
  • Students can sometimes find it difficult to research and delve into their interests in the fields of economics and finance.
  • Students sometimes struggle with the difficulty of their Economics courses, particularly in the more quantitative modules.

I aim to help solve these issues.

If elected President I will seek to:

  • Organise at least 10 speakers to come to UCL from a wide range of career paths, from fields like banking, consultancy, non-profit work and academia to provide key guidance on internship applications, graduate schemes and further study.
  • Link the society with The UCL Economic Tribune and provide an opportunity for 5-10 students a term to write shorter-length 'opinion' pieces on a topic which interests them.
  • Organise a UCL Economics Debate Competition on topics like macroeconomic policy and financial markets.
  • Organise an online mentoring system and academic support sessions to help students tackle the difficult modules, in an easy-to-understand, clear way which doesn't assume knowledge.

Vote for Me!

Mehmet Üşümez

Hello everyone, I'm Mehmet Üşümez, your current First-Year Rep of Academic Events, and I'm running to bring out the full potential of The Economists' Society.

Serving in this year's committee gave me a good grasp of our strengths and shortcomings.

Now, I am ready to step up and lead us into our best year yet.

My vision for this society is built on three main pillars:

  1. Two-Tier Executive Structure: To deliver bigger events, we need more power. Under my presidency, I will introduce a new First-Year Executive role, distinct from First Year Reps, to handle the groundwork and logistics. This will allow second-year executives to step up as Team Leads, gaining valuable management experience, while doubling our capacity. By doing so, we will have the manpower to execute projects from Day 1.
  2. Global Ambition: We're the biggest departmental society at UCL. Why settle when we have the reputation and the new workforce? I will launch an extensive outreach campaign across the society starting in Term 1, targeting global heavyweights such as Nobel Laureates. It is a bold goal, but with a larger and dedicated team under my leadership, we will aim higher.
  3. Bridging the Gap with Finance: We're The Economists' Society, but finance remains key for many of us. I will increase our finance related events by introducing workshops, industry breakdowns and more high-profile speakers, while protecting our unique academic identity.

I have the experience and the drive to execute.

Vote Mehmet for President.
