Alexandros Chatzopoulos

I am applying to be Director of Internal Relations in the Economists’ society because I believe that alumni engagement can be incredibly valuable in shaping the careers of UCL Economics students in a wide range of fields. My goal is therefore simple: to make insights, from those who once sat in our seats in Logan Hall in the past, accessible to UCL Economics students and particularly first years who may be unsure about what they want to do next.

If elected as Director of Internal Relations, I would work to develop new initiatives and refine flagship events which have proven to be very successful. The Internal Relations’ flagship alumni networking event has served as the highlight of a yearlong engagement between students and alumni in the society. By incorporating feedback from students and previous committees, I hope to further improve this event, strengthening relationships with past speakers and expanding our alumni network.

In addition, I aim to create a clearer channel between students and alumni so that guidance is more accessible to students who may benefit from it. Rather than depending on a single event, student-alumni relations should be strong and consistent throughout the year. As this year’s First Year Representative in Internal Relations, I have gained valuable insight within the division and the society. Having seen firsthand how the society operates, I believe I could use these experiences to contribute to shaping next year’s society.

I am applying for the role of Director of Internal Relations because I believe that the outcomes delivered to you stem from internal organisation and strong community cohesion. By connecting committee members, we can enhance events and interventions by streamlining changes to make a tangible difference. This would include regular updates, project tracking and collecting feedback . Additionally, I would prioritise clear communication channels between divisions within in the society by coordinating frequent internal discussions and curating shared planners to express ideas and concerns. This will allow each department to voice themselves and engage in effective action to make a difference.

I believe I would be a suitable candidate because I have strong organisational skills, am reliable and always to open to new ideas. I am responsible and fair, giving me the ability to appease disputes and situations in order for the society to work towards a common goal. I hope to cultivate a community-driven environment where structured collaboration promotes transformative results.
