Hi everyone!
I'm Yahali, a first-year PPE and Data Science student, and I'm running for Director of Academic Events.
My signature idea is a Socratic Lecture Series. We invite academic economists and researchers doing cutting-edge work. They present a single, contestable claim. Then students come up to the front and debate them directly, challenging their assumptions and defending a rival position.
Economics is a discipline built on contested claims and rival frameworks, and I think we should engage with it that way.
Beyond that:
- Student paper presentations: a dedicated space to share and stress-test your own ideas in front of peers.
- Reading groups: small, regular sessions that build the habit of actually engaging with economic literature, not just citing it.
- Debate panels: student-led discussions on broader contested topics, from fiscal policy to the economics of AI.
I study economics alongside philosophy, politics, and data science, and believe the best economic thinking borrows from all of them. I want every event to connect to what you are studying, so that Tuesday evening changes how you think on Wednesday morning. That is when economics started making sense to me, and I want to build that experience for everyone.
Vote Yahali!
