I’ve always felt that the heart of the Economics and Finance Society isn’t just in the lecture theatre—it’s in the conversations after a fireside chat or during a social. As a member this year, I’ve seen how powerful these moments can be. But I also know how intimidating it can feel to walk into a room full of ambitious peers. That’s why I’m running for Director of Socials: I want to build on our strong social tradition and make it more accessible and impactful for every member.

My experience in event planning has taught me that a great social doesn’t just happen—it requires organisation and attention to the attendee experience. Whether attending the Stock Exchange Bar Social or a technical workshop, I’ve thought about how to apply my organisational skills to improve these formats. I’m committed to being the teammate who handles the behind-the-scenes work—from securing venues to coordinating logistics—so every event runs smoothly and members can focus on building their network.

I don’t just want to host events; I want to connect our academic content with our community. I hope to ensure major sessions are paired with social spaces where members feel comfortable asking questions and forming friendships. I’m ready to put in the planning and coordination to make the Economics and Finance Society the most welcoming and connected community at UCL. Let’s make our social calendar a reason people truly feel they belong.

Aryan Mittal

Hi everyone! I’m running for Director of Socials for the Economics and Finance Society because I want to help create events that bring members together while reflecting the professional and ambitious spirit of the society.

At my previous school, I organised and helped run a range of events including comedy shows, quizzes, and charity football matches. These experiences taught me how to plan engaging events, coordinate logistics, and create an atmosphere where people genuinely enjoy themselves. I particularly enjoyed seeing how well-planned socials can bring a community together.

If elected, I would aim to organise a variety of high-quality socials throughout the year that complement the society’s professional focus. This could include formal black-tie dinners, networking socials, themed finance nights, quiz evenings, and charity sports events. My goal would be to create opportunities for members to connect with each other in a relaxed setting while still maintaining the professional tone associated with economics and finance.

The Economics and Finance Society provides incredible academic and career opportunities, but strong socials are equally important in building a lasting community. As Director of Socials, I would work to organise memorable and well-run events that members look forward to attending and that strengthen the network within the society.

Jake Roberts

Hi, I'm Jake, a 1st year BSc Economics student and current Socials Executive within EFS, and I'm running for Director of Socials.

Being a part of EFS doesn't just mean getting help applying for internships and attending fireside chats, it's about being a part of one of UCL's largest communities, meeting new friends and attending engaging events. Through my vision for socials, I will create an exciting social scene, driven by both innovative and traditional social events.

Why me?

  • Proven Leadership over Social Events - As an executive, I've taken an active role securing a venue and co-ordinating the upcoming Economics Ball. I have also lead organisation for a large-scale (70+ attendees) event for my local swimming club.
  • Passionate about people and their experience within EFS - I have met many new people through EFS, and I would love to build a platform for more people to do so in future.
  • Familiar with Society Processes - I have learnt the ins and outs of society events, allowing for an efficient transition into next year.

My plan:

  • New, creative socials - Trips abroad? Sports and game competitions? Finance quiz nights? I want to share my creative event ideas with our huge community.
  • Embrace Tradition - Develop and expand the events that we are known for, such as the Boat Party and Ball.
  • Greater inter-societal collaboration - Only at UCL do we have so many finance-related groups, socials can foster collaboration and friendly competition between us.

If you share this vision: vote for Jake!

I’m applying for Director of Socials because I believe the social side of a society is what truly builds community. As someone who regularly attends Economics and Finance Society events, I’ve seen how the atmosphere and organisation of socials directly influence how connected members feel.

Through leading the Leo Club, which is part of an international charity network focused on community service, I managed a team of 50+ members and organised large-scale initiatives and events for over 1,000 participants. This experience taught me how to create engaging environments, coordinate logistics efficiently, and ensure events feel inclusive rather than transactional.

If elected, I would focus on organising socials that encourage genuine interaction, strengthen member connections, and make the Society feel dynamic and welcoming.

What makes me stand out for the Director of Socials position at the UCL Economics and Finance Society is my proven ability to organise engaging events, lead teams, and build strong communities. As a Team Leader Volunteer at an animal shelter, I organised charity events and coordinated volunteers, managing logistics, timelines, and promotion. Through targeted marketing campaigns across five schools, I increased event turnout by 30% and helped raise over £1,000 in donations. This experience strengthened my ability to plan events that attract participation and create a positive, engaging atmosphere.

In addition, my academic background in Management Science at UCL has developed my analytical and organisational skills. Through coursework in data analytics, mathematics, and business economics, I have learned to approach problems in a structured way, which helps with planning events efficiently, managing resources, and ensuring that socials run smoothly.

I also bring a collaborative and energetic approach to working with teams. Leading volunteers required clear communication, coordination, and the ability to motivate people toward a shared goal. I would bring this same energy to the Economics and Finance Society by organising creative, well-structured socials that help members connect, relax, and build lasting friendships beyond the classroom.

Minh Dang

Hi, I’m Minh! 👋

If EFS had a "Loyalty Card," I’d have a lifetime membership - I’ve attended 96% of all events this year! ☕️ While I love the technicals, the best part of EFS is the people. Pick me because I bring "Front-Office" energy to our social life.

Need a sold-out mixer? I’m the girl who will send 100 emails a day to get the best spots in London for us. 📧🔥

Why Minh? 💼

  • Bridge Builder: As Head of Outreach for UCL Street Aid, I managed NGO partnerships. I’m an expert at bringing groups together—the core of a great Social Director! 🤝
  • Finance Pulse: Studying Management Science with two PE internships, I know how hard we work—and how much we need to de-stress! 📊
  • People Person: I don't just "network", I connect. I want EFS socials to be where our unique stories are told. 💗

My Vision: "No to Alone Stress!" 🌟

Mark Aedy (Chairman, Moelis) said: "Without collaboration, Moelis would not be able to be like itself today." Finance is a "hardship journey" alone, but a "success story" together. I’ll create socials where collaboration happens naturally over coffee or something stronger! 🥂

When you vote for me, you aren’t picking a "leader" in a suit. You’re picking a friend who wants you to shine and enjoy the ride. 🤝❤️ Let’s make the journey lit with joy and zero "alone stress." Shall we onboard together? >:D 🚢✨

Abir Ghosh Biswas

I’m standing for Director of Social Events in the UCL Economics and Finance Society because I want the society to be genuinely fun and social, not just something people join for LinkedIn. I’m naturally outgoing, I enjoy bringing people together, and I want to organise socials that people actually look forward to.

I’m already the First Year Representative, so I’m closely connected to what new members want and what helps people settle in and feel included. I’ve been around the socials and I know what works, good vibes, good turnout, and events that make it easy to meet people without it feeling awkward or forced.

If elected, I’ll run a proper social calendar with a mix of chilled and high energy events, and I’ll focus on the details that make nights good. Good venues, good themes, fair prices, and clear promotion so people actually show up. Most importantly, I want to build a culture where members feel comfortable coming alone and leaving with friends.

I’m standing because I’d bring energy, consistency, and fun to the role, and I’d make socials one of the best parts of being in the society.
