Dodgeball Club: President

I would love to run for Dodgeball President to help shape and strengthen this amazing community. Since joining, I’ve been blown away by how welcoming, energetic, and competitive the club is, and I’m excited by the opportunity to contribute to its continued growth.

As First-Year Rep for other societies, I’ve seen firsthand how much work goes on behind the scenes to keep a society running smoothly. That experience has given me insight into committee organisation, communication, and teamwork, all of which are essential for leading a successful and supportive club.

Next year, as a second-year student, I’ll have the flexibility and commitment needed to dedicate the right amount of time and energy to the role. My experience as a class representative has strengthened my leadership, time management, and ability to represent others’ voices effectively. I want to continue building on our diverse initiatives, from tournaments and collaborations with other societies to creative and inclusive socials, while also introducing new ideas to keep the club fresh, engaging, and growing.

I want to ensure Dodgeball remains friendly, inclusive, competitive, and, above all, fun — a place where everyone feels welcome, whether they’re here to win matches or just enjoy the community. I’d love the chance to lead and give back to a society that’s already given me so much.

Hey everyone, my name is Abishah Sooriyakumar. I'm a second year Cancer Biomedicine student and have been part of dodgeball club for nearly 4 years now!

I was a shy first year, trekking through the scary roads of Somer's Town for the first time, not knowing that this sport would take over my life and become my only personality trait. I have since had the joy in joining competitive dodgeball, participated in competitions and been the social media secretary (Sep 2024- Aug 25).

If I were given the opportunity to be President I would:

• Increase Collaborations with societies: Dodgeball is home to such a diverse range of students, so it would be amazing to collaborate and incorporate other sports and arts.  
• Have more themed socials: Why should we limit dressing up to Halloween and Christmas?
• Create a termly newsletter: From funny quotes and moments to MVPs from BUCS games, I'd love to introduce a newsletter to showcase our amazing players. 
• Bring guest coaches: UCL has been home to some of the best dodgeball players who have gone onto play nationals and England. I'd love to get them involved with our competitive training sessions to provide valuable insight.

Dodgeball society has "bewitched me, body and soul". It's given me lifelong friends, helped me grow as a player and as a person, and created my favourite memories. That's precisely why I'd love to be your President. I want to continue to grow this community, this safe space and allow many more people to make these wonderful memories.
