I am applying to be Vice President as I am deeply motivated by the field of diplomacy and eager to take on a more active role within our community at UCL. I hope to pursue a career in diplomacy, so see this position as both a meaningful way to contribute to the society and an invaluable opportunity to develop the skills required for that path.
Diplomacy, at its core, is about communication, coordination, and the ability to bring people together across differences. The role of Vice President requires precisely these qualities. I would work closely with the President and committee to ensure that events are ambitious, well-organised, and reflective of members’ interests. Whether supporting speaker events, skills workshops, or collaborations with other societies, I would approach the role with reliability, initiative, and attention to detail.
Beyond logistics, I would aim to provide an inclusive and intellectually open environment. Diplomacy depends on respectful debate and thoughtful listening; I would want our events to model these principles. By encouraging a diversity of perspectives and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere, I would ensure that all members feel confident contributing to discussions.
Ultimately, I am standing because I care about the society’s future and am excited by the opportunity to help shape it. I am organised, communicative, and committed, and I would be proud to support and represent the UCL Diplomacy Society as Vice President next year.
Dear fellow Diplomacy Society Members,
My name is Angelica, and I am a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics student. I am excited to run for being Vice President in the Diplomacy Society!
I always enjoyed working on the administrative side of student organizations. One example that aligns closely with this administrative role is my experience as a student body president at my previous school, where I organized bi-weekly assemblies, fun seasonal events, and, most relevant to this position, a monthly speaker series. In the speaker series we had people with diverse professions– from Harvard economics to fashion curators– share their career with students.
Over the past year as both an active member and Head of Events, I had the opportunity to get to know many of you and gain a deeper understanding of how the Society operates. From organizing initiatives like a career panel to learning alongside you at Pizza and Politics sessions, I valued every experience. I would love to engage more deeply with our Society’s community and build on my experiences as Vice President. As VP, I am confident I can continue collaborating closely with members and the committee to create meaningful events that support your academic and career goals while helping the Society grow.
I look forward to working with you, whether being your VP or as an active member of the Diplomacy Society. Thank you for considering me – I would love the opportunity to grow this society with you!
~ Angelica
After being a part of diplomacy society for almost 2 years, I have understood the ins and out of the society. As a first year rep, I I focused on inclusion and engagement, making sure new members felt heard and represented. As a head of events, I was able to take that knowledge and understanding, and apply it to my events this year which included pizza and politics, panels about south east asia (we don't have those enough), and now I am planning multiple south east asian embassy visits with my fellow heads of events.
What I would do as vice president:
- Introduce a “Diplomacy in Practice” careers series, featuring alumni, diplomats, consultants, and policy professionals to make the society directly career-relevant.
- Expand member engagement pathways through mentorship pairings, committee shadowing, and clearer routes from general membership to leadership roles.
- Prioritize feedback from members and discuss what events and what ideas they would like to see in the society, and what we can work on already.
- Introduce more structured social events to strengthen community bonds and ensure members build meaningful connections beyond formal panels and discussions.
I have already demonstrated commitment. Now I’m ready to lead at the next level.
Vote Ananya for vice president!
As a committed member and current Welfare Officer of the Diplomacy Society, I am standing to become your next Vice President. Throughout this academic year, I have organised four events to bring members together and foster networking with students from other societies and universities. By arranging intercollegiate socials and building connections within and beyond UCL, I have developed strong communication and collaboration skills essential for this role.
Having co-founded the UN Women Society this year and served as VP, I have led weekly meetings and delegated tasks for events. This experience has given me a clear understanding of internal operations and strengthened my leadership, organisational, and coordination skills, all of which I will bring to the role.
With experience across two societies, I am prepared to support the President, assist committee members with challenges in organising events, and manage administrative communications with the SU.
As VP, I will expand professional opportunities through more panel discussions and career events with alumni and experts, while strengthening our sense of community by improving communication and support between members.
Our time in leadership may be limited, but the standard we set is not. I am ready to build on the Diplomacy Society’s legacy and elevate it further.
