For me, the best part of dance is creating and seeing your vision come to life on stage. I love that process so much I want to support others to experience that same joy. That’s why I’d love to be your Resident Choreographer next year.
This competition season I choreographed the Inter Jazz piece as the only fresher comps choreographer, which gave me valuable insight into choreographing for uni dancers and working through creative blocks. It made me realise how important it is to have someone approachable for advice, and that’s the kind of support I’d like to offer in this role.
Outside university, I work as a dance teacher where I choreograph and teach dancers aged 6–19. Teaching a wide range of ages and abilities has made me confident adapting choreography so dancers feel both challenged and capable, and I’ve created pieces across styles including jazz, contemporary, lyrical and acro.
I also regularly lead warmups through teaching and previously as a Dance Captain, so I’m confident leading large groups and creating a positive environment. With experience choreographing for mixed abilities, I’d love to create inclusive, energetic show finales.
Alongside this, I’m on the committee of another society as Chief People’s Officer, which has given me a strong understanding of the commitment required in committee roles.
Fundamentally, I’d love the opportunity to bring my experience, enthusiasm and creativity to this role while helping choreographers feel confident developing their work.
I'm nominating myself for Resident Choreographer because I want to actively contribute to the creativity and growth of our dance community. Dance has been a part of my life since early childhood (shout-out to all my baby ballerinas out there!!). Over the years I've trained in more than 4 styles and have watched countless performances, giving me a strong understanding of different techniques and innovative performance skills.
In addition, I've choreographed for competitions and classes, strengthening my ability to structure pieces and highlight dancers' different strengths. Most memorably, I co-choreographed with my best friend before she left for uni which taught me a lot about the time, patience and effort that goes into choreographing. Even outside the studio, I find myself randomly piecing together movements to the songs playing in my headphones. I would truly be thrilled to channel this creative drive more actively through this role.
As Resident Choreographer, I want to bridge dancing and choreographing by making the creative process more approachable to anyone who wants to try it. I hope to encourage cross-style collaboration, offer meaningful feedback and create an environment where dancers feel confident exploring new movement and reaching their full potential. I am outgoing, approachable, and genuinely passionate to see the dancers grow and showcase their talents. I would love the opportunity to help bring our dance community even closer through shared creative work.
