As someone who commutes by the TFL every day, I understand the challenges of travelling to university, and I want to ensure no one feels alone and like they are 'missing out'. Having taken on many roles that required me to interact with a wide range of students during sixth form, such as mentoring year 11 students throughout their exam journey, I know how to lend a listening ear to anyone who may need it! I’m approachable, organised and committed to making commuter students feel included and supported.
I would like to make university life more supportive and inclusive for commuter students. I will campaign for more commuter-friendly events earlier in the day (so people can still beat rush hour), and push for better spaces to rest and study during long lecture gaps. I’ll also work to improve support for commuters who miss sessions due to unavoidable travel issues (like cancellations and delays), and make sure commuters know what help is available and who to contact if they ever need it. I want to ensure commuter voices are heard.
I know all too well that many commuters, like myself, feel like they are missing out on the “typical” university experience. Balancing travel, lectures and coursework isn’t easy, and it can be even harder if you’re new and trying to make friends. I want to make sure every student at UCL feels included and is able to attend events so they can socialise and network freely.
