Election post
Hi everyone :) My name is Marcus. I am a first-year Classics and the Ancient World student. I’m excited to nominate myself for Treasurer.
To me, Classics has not always been just something we read, but something we experience. We must have tangibility to experience the discipline. Whether that is museum visits, food nights, or cross-society collaborations, events require strong financial foundations. Books need to be managed and budgets must be maintained. The treasurer’s role is a crucial one.
My professional legal-accounting experience managing invoices, budgets and cashflow lends a natural flair for the role. I will ensure our funds are transparent and strategically reinvested into the society.
A pragmatic approach is required to ensure financial success. In maintaining a well-managed budget system and funding initiatives, the society can grow its potential for access to historical sites and classical experiences. For a discipline where this tangibility, this is of especial importance.
The ancient world understood public finance on a deep level. Just as the Lydians spread financial freedom in the 7th century BC, I want to bring financial liberty to facilitate a variety of events and opportunities for newfound Classics enthusiasts and veterans alike. Cross-society debates, treasury reports, career events and partnership-funding initiatives are just some of the ideas I aim to bring.
