I am running for Welfare Officer because I believe every student deserves to feel heard and supported within CSSA.

As a Student Representative in Biochemical Engineering, I regularly gather feedback on academic concerns and programme suggestions. This experience has shown me how important clear communication and structured support are. Students often do not need grand solutions — they need someone who listens and ensures their voices are represented.

As a member of General Secretary in CSSA, I have gained experience in internal coordination and communication. I understand how departments operate and how information gaps can affect efficiency. Student affairs is not only about organizing activities, but also about building a reliable bridge between members and the committee.

My leadership experience as President of the Business Simulation Society and Academic Director of the Model United Nations Society taught me the value of structure, accountability, and continuity. My engineering background also strengthens my ability to analyze systems and improve processes.

If elected, I will focus on three key priorities: establishing clearer feedback mechanisms, improving internal communication, and strengthening students’ sense of belonging.

I am ready to dedicate my time and commitment to building a more supportive and well-connected CSSA community.

Chentao (Tony) Zhao

My name is Chentao (Tony) Zhao and I am running for Welfare Officer for the 2026–2027 academic year. I am a third-year student in Engineering and Architectural Design and currently serve as Head of the Publicity Department of UCLCSSA. I was also one of the main coordinators of the 2025–2026 Pre-departure Briefing, the main organizer of the cross-university photography project “Wandering Camera 3.0”, and the creator of the UCLCSSA mascot “Guoran Monkey 2.0”.

As Welfare Officer, I aim to improve the Student Welfare system by strengthening response mechanisms, expanding wellbeing support, and raising safety awareness among students.

First, I will introduce a level-based response system to handle daily matters, urgent incidents, and major emergencies more efficiently, ensuring students receive timely help and clear guidance.

Second, I will work with UCL wellbeing resources, student societies and society organizations to expand mental health support, including stress-management workshops, wellbeing activities, and anonymous support channels such as the “Winter Mailbox”.

Third, I will promote safety awareness initiatives, sharing practical guidance on fraud prevention, personal safety, emergency procedures, and medical assistance etc.

My goal is to build a Student Welfare Office that is supportive in everyday life and dependable in critical moments, so every Chinese student at UCL feels safe, supported, and heard.

Thank you for your trust and support!
